Guys, please. The HA is supposed to be the be all end all amulet for a lot of classes and specs. It doesn't have to be that for all specs. With this in mind, there is no reason to treat it like cheap transitioning gear. Farming for it and upgrading it is (imo) supposed to be one of the things to do besides (greater) rifts.
I am no fan of the current key farming procedure but the actual uber encounters were the one aspect I liked most in D3V (former WoW player ). Haven't bothered with them in RoS so far to be fair because the current ring is a joke.
You don't upgrade Hellfire amulet. (Unless you're talking about the mystic)
And as a barb, I have little excitement towards another passive. It's ok.. but there are definitely existing amulet effects that are better. I also wouldn't trade a passive for an amulet primary stat. There just aren't passives nearly as good as 10% CC or 100% CHD, or 20% Ele damage for me.

i think the passive will roll as a secondary, so you wouldn't sacrifice CHC/CHD/ELEM

I meant getting new ones as upgrades over the previous.
About your other point: Don't match the unique property against the best primary stats. Getting a fifth primary on another amulet means it will have the fifth-best primary over the Hellfire. Can't yet decide which one that'll be but I don't suppose it'll be anything with "crit" in it.
For Crusader? One of the best effects in game, most crusader passives are on par with an extra primary (and don't fool yourself, you won;t be using a hellfire that doesn't have crit anyway).
For other classes? "Second chance" passives will no doubt be popular in high level rifts. But there are other amulets with great legend effects.
ye i also think it will open many possibilities for amulets, since, from my experience, not many amulets roll nice nor do they drop like health pots.
if "regular" leg-ammys gonna stay with the 5 primaries, they will surely be first choice for classes with max 4-5 good (standard) passives, and i bet the hellfire amulet will be first choice by others, like Helycon mentioned above: i find the WD passives quite nice, many for damage boost, also the monks and crusaders will probably use them.
But let's first check out how the legendary gems will synergize with the 5-stat-ammys with socket
And sure, farming like crazy on PTR has no sense, and i also think even on live, because I for example will play seasons, that's why I also count the live server as waste of time to progress on. but having a clue how things are coming and will be never was wrong.
Ive didnt read the previous posts ,but Im afraid im not gonna farm this amulet at all. Thers few reasons that will make the farming really long to get a good roll.
1. Ubber bosses wont drop materials even on t6. (im not sure is that going to be changed on 2.1)
2. U gamble to get a good roll on main stats ...3 or 2 effecta (cch/cd) .We all know the chance to roll 3fecta HF ring was close to 0%.
3. Gamble to roll the passive u want ...
I though using this amulet will just open one more passive slot , and u put the skill u want.
IMO, the title of the topic should be changed: Hellfire Amulet won't be our ONLY choice obviously, but it will most definitely be BIS, if you'll get lucky enough to get good rolls on and a useful passive. For example, as a wizard, I'd really like to have one with the Blur passive, since 17% toughness boost without a DPS trade-off is actually huge. I think every class has a passive like that, fitting every build.

This.
Also, I think blizzard will most likely pimp the drop rates of keys and/or organs, at current state it's really the latest thing you want to do for game progression. but once they have increased drop rates, it will be amulet #1 for me i think, the classes i mostly play have just so nice and so many passives, that i will grind for it.
imagine if this one rolls well, maybe not perfect, but nice with one of the needed passives. Then i would probably sacrifice mainstat for a socket to get a nice leg gem in there .. mhh yummy
Seriously, stop crying about the effort you need to put in to get the Hellfire amulet. Yes, farming keys is boring as hell and it can take forever to get a decent one, let alone a useful or BiS HF amulet. But this instant gratification has to stop.
Well, I'm quite sure Blizzard will give in to the QQ eventually and make the drop rate 100%, just like they buffed the legendary drop rate, set drop rates, Kadala, and so on. If all this wouldn't have happened there would've been long-term incentive to play the game without the need for a reset (ladders)...
Seriously, the elitist attitude in this community is ridiculously frustrating. It is RNG, what is the issue with making it easier? What is skillful about grinding a specific key type for weeks straight. Not sure about you, but i do not find mindlessly repeating the same quest for a chance to farm an item fun. You said so in your statement, that grinding for keys in boring, So why institute a mechanic which is ridiculously boring? To make it harder. This is a game built on RNG which makes things solely random. Isn't that hard enough? I have been playing my WD since day one of D3 and since day one of RoS, and have yet to get a full jade set, because the boots elude me, yet there are folks that have less than 50 hours of game play on a WD with a full jade set, SMK, TMF, and all of the other fancy acronymns. That doesn't make them more skilled, or any better at the game, it just means that they were lucky enough to get the drops they needed. Chill out and let blizz make the game fun! Isnt it fun to finally get that item that has eluded you? I know i will throw a party if I am ever able to get the jade boots!
It isn't an elitist attitude: it is an achievement that takes dedication. If, by making keywardens drop keys 100% of the time, and uber bosses drop their parts 100% of the time, is "making the game fun", every character will have an amulet within 2-3 hours of the 2.1 patch and the game will become dull very quickly. People need something that takes time and effort to continue playing.
it is truly "unrewarding", when the chance to drop a single key/organ is 50% on T6 (!). you need 4 of them, which implies that you have to find the warden first, kill it on the highest difficulty you can and have in mind, that you most likely will have to do another run. while the wardens in Act3 & 4 are "relatively" easy to find, the first two take much more time in most cases.
now that you finally farmed all 4 keys, you go ahead and kill the ubers on the highest difficulty possible and again with only 50-50 chance on T6. Well, for me it's ok. I don't mind grinding some hours to be able to craft this amulet, but not everyone has/wants to use a nearly perfect geared Jade WD and by far not every one plays on T6 only. And then you craft a completely random amulet with a random Passive for your class. I think the leg drop rate buff had less "QQ"-spirit than this, despite the power that this amu might have in final rollout. They surely will have to increase the rates at least by 10-25% for each, then it's good reasonable i think. Keep in mind that you still will need 10 souls for 1 amulet (!), which might be also lowered in final version .. ^^
i still didn't get how some would manage to hunt keys "in group" but let's not be too Greedy...
IMO, for greater rifts 30+ I wouldn't wear anything other than one of the immunity necks because higher tier rifts feel like pre-nerf inferno, everything that isn't your basic white mob 1 shots you... Toughness feels relatively worthless and the only survivability stats that are worth-while are immunities. I doubt any of the extra passives (considering it's not going to be one of your top 4) outweighs the amount of time spent running back from checkpoint because you got clipped by an arcane torrent for 1/5th of a second.
If we looked in terms of pure DPS then the proc from Haunt of Vaxo is still very strong for some builds, stuff like Moonlight Ward will still be BiS for arcane builds, and then there's set amulets which for certain builds could be a more viable pick not to mention the fact that it's still not live and they are both creating new legendaries and revamping old ones so we don't know what else may come along. So in all, no I don't think the hellfire amulet is going to be the out-right best choice for everyone it'll be an excellent choice for some and fairly mediocre for others.
In fact for bis I would opt for having 1 of each immunity neck and switch between them.
Dear god I hope you're wrong, nothing is more annoying then having to item swap. It drives me nuts right now and I only swap out for arcane immunity and shrine elites. If to survive in end game you have to carry a inventory half full of "situational gear" and switch a bunch of stuff out depending on the incoming monster pack that would be something that just might make me quit.

I am wrong, I forgot that you can't open your inventory during a greater rift so item-swapping like this wouldn't be possible my bad. Even so, I would take an immunity neck (probably fire for chains + molten) over my 5th choice passive.

Blizz is already giving us a handicap since you can run with a 4 player party and have 4x more keys/machines - hence 4x higher drop chance
maybe i oversee something, but how do you get 4x more keys in a 4 player party? also the 4x higher drop chance ?
Can't open inventory or item swap in greater rifts.
4x the chance i think he meant that if each person in your group got a key then you could open up additional portals because each person could open their own portal.

I mean I'd happily take indestructible over immunity to a single damage type on my crusader.
