This is the place to ask questions about new computers, ask if your new computer will run Diablo 3 or another game, or to show off your rig to everyone.
I run a lot of virtual machines and for that I use packs of low-cost bundles of ram from a reliable vendor. 24 gigabytes seems to be a lot, but in reality it's just 16 simultaneous TF2 idle sessions lol.
If you have lots of ram (more than 6 Gb) and you don't run VMs like me, you may want to disable your swap file completely so the OS takes everything from ram. You'll notice much better performance and loading times decrease, a lot like running from SSD, but when you have both, mmmmm…

My laptop is Acer Aspire 5520g which if you are interested in you can google for specs.
I bought a tower 2 weeks ago with pretty damn good specs, costing 1300$, (16 gb ram 1600 mhz etc) all except for the graphics card. I bought the cheapest ( 70-100$?) Nvidia graphics card possible for the tower because my intention is that i will only use the tower for my work (music making). When (and IF) i will play Diablo 3 it will be on my laptop, because as i said, my tower is only for my work.
I said "IF i will play Diablo" because i am still unsure if i will play it. Don't get me wrong.. I am a huge Diablo fan and have been playing since D1 when i was 7-8 years old (the background screaming baby noises gave me nightmares) and was an avid D2 player.
BUT, my wish is that i focus on my music and stop playing games.. But you know how it goes, sometimes you need some recreations so when D3 launches, it will all depend on my recreational needs.. But i DO feel strong obligations to pay my respect to the D3 series.
Still have this three years later and no problems.

I'm ignorant to this 'disabling swapping files', could you fill me in on how to do it on a win 7 64 bit?
16g DDR3
Nvidia GTX 470 x 2 (second on the way =D)
Quad-core AMD 3.7GHZ
160g SSD (on the way =D) atm just a 1TB 7200
Asus m4a89td pro/usb3 MB
1k watt PS
dual 24" 1080P 2MS response LED backlit 10 million :1 contrast Asus monitors
19 button Razer naga mouse
Alienware keyboard
Razer Nostromo speed pad
Windows 7 64bit OS
Cost of all this? (with buying two badass cases) ~2k
Cost of this being the first computer you've ever built, doing it by yourself, and having it not blow up? priceless =D
*side note* Apparently the AMD phenom II processors are extremely resilient, case in point: Bent about 14 of the prongs with a bad install to the MB, somehow bent all of em back, still works like a champ =P
The thing is when you run some apps, they leave a lot of data in swap "just in case", but when you have ridiculous amount of free ram, why not place it there?
Instruction for Win7/Vista/XP: press WinKey+Break(pause) > (Advanced system settings for 7/vista) > System Properties, Advanced tab > Performance, Settings button > Performance options, Advanced tab, Virtual memory, change button > select "No paging file" and press Set button for every disk, reboot and see for yourself.
In case you don't like what you get, you can always set it back. I do not recommend this if you have less than 6 Gb of ram, since you'll be experiencing problems if you run a lot of apps simultaneously (you will eventually do that and it's gonna be frustrating).

Don't want to have any crashes during my years stuck inside Diablo III. Getting a SSD later, so when I come home from work I can start D3 even faster. Yeah, it is worth it!
I sadly had to get rid of my Desktop (downsizing to a new place) But in this case I was able to order a brand new laptop. Now scince im not millionaire I wasnt able to have all the things I wanted but here's what I got:
Dell XPS 17.3 Full HD 1080p with HD webcam
2nd generation Intel Core i7-2630QM processor 2.00 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz
6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB graphics with Optimus
1.0TB 500GB 7.2k HDD x 2
Thx. Coulda paid more for more memory or RAM, but it was damn expensive and also coulda gotten a faster processor, but honestly I think im okay with what I got for most gaming and normal usage
OS: Win 7 64 bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.4 Ghz
MoBo: (Some Dell POS, for an Inspirion 530)
RAM: 4 GB of DDR2
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6800
HDD: 500 gb internal Samsung drive, 500 gb external Western Digital, 2 tb external Hitachi.
Mines a mishmash of Dell and homebuilt (my last puter was going bad, and I didn't want to risk it just dieing while I was researching and putting together my lists, and being out). That's why I have the DDR2 ram, I didn't want to replace the mobo just to get ddr3, cause then I'd have to upgrade the cpu, and then I might as well just make a whole new system (as the new video card needed a new PSU anyway).
My accessories are listed in the computer accersories thread that I made.
Question though: I am looking to eventually make a new comp (not sure if I will be porting over the video card or not), what cases do you all recommend?
I'm curious if anyone that has a beta invite has tried running the game on a lower end computer or a laptop, and what kind of performance they have been seeing.
I ask because I'm curious if my work laptop will be able to run the game. Below are my system specs.
Well, we now have the Beta system requirements up on the home page. I had already installed the Beta launcher, and the home page boots up super quick. Obviously, that isn't a very good judge of game requirements, but it seems quite a bit more optimized than most games out there. Witcher 2 takes forever to boot sometimes. Even Starcraft II can take a bit to load at times. Anyways, I'm super psyched, and figured I'd update my plans since my old thread got redirected to here.
CPU Type: AMD Phenom(tm) II X2 550 Processor
CPU Speed: 3.12 GHz (I crank it up to 3.6 in the winter)
System Memory: 3.25 GB
Video Card Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO
Video Card Memory: 1.86 GB (fairly certain this is reading wrong for a card that came with only 512mb)
Desktop Resolution: 1440x900
Hard Disk Size: 931.41 GB
Hard Disk Free Space: 327.94 GB (35%)
Download Speed: 825.47 kB/s (6.8 mbps)
Parts I'm upgrading before December:
Corsair TX750w PSU
MSI Radeon 6850 1GB 256bit DDR5 (I like how cheap the video cards have become)
Mushkin Silverline 4GBx2 (RAM is SUPER cheap now!!)
And with a little luck and hard work, a new monitor in the 23-25" range.
Should be running with flying colors by then.
@Zimeroski - Average Joe's can't play yet, its only friends and family of Blizzard in the Beta right now. Your specs are currently above the min specs and below the recommended specs for the Beta. You should be fine as long as Blizz supports the drivers you are using.

Neat! I don't expect to turn many graphic settings on but if I can get it so I can play a little on-the-go or from the couch that would awesome. I have a rather nice desktop that I know will have no problems playing the game. It's just finding the time to hide away in the office away from the wife long enough to play. ><
I'm just hoping I get selected for a beta when the time comes. I've had bad luck with Blizzard beta invites. The last one I was in on was the original WoW beta that was open to everyone. It's just really exciting to see this game almost finished.
