this sounds promising. monsters with AI are always more fun to fight, because they feel like more of a threat. they feel like they have a (after)life of their own, and are actually seeing you as an enemy rather than as a magnet.

the inventory sounds cool too. diablo 2's inventory can get annoying, and WoW's inventory is too easy to lose items in. ("i need such-and-such potion for this part, if i could just FIND it in this mess of trash items!") so larger icons would be cool. i just wonder how they're going to balance large icons with managable space.

i solo'd a lot on hardcore mode to keep from being pk'd. and that's what the hostility system really amounted to: getting pk'd. duels were pretty unbalanced too, as a paladin could be almost immune to all elements and just run around spells, then charge.

the only other reason to solo was just to keep the difficulty level at a minimum so that people joining and staying in town wouldn't leave you the only one out there fighting monsters that were suddenly 7 times tougher. and that actually happened a lot, with all the beggars and people too lazy to make their own trade game.

    I'm calling it now:
Tony Hawk's Call of Diablocraft Extreme: Arthas' Revenge

It'll be a Strategic Tactical Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Pro-Skating RPG with Paladins.

you, sir or madam, are a genius. just trying to imagine that has me lolirl

if you've played Metal Gear Solid 2: substinance, then you've actually seen something close to this with the silly Solid Snake skateboarding thing...what a strange experience. i'm glad they didn't build upon that too much. my mind can only handle so many genres as once.

but i'd totally spec for grinding, and get the unlockable unique Azurewrath Skateboard of Accurate-Headshots-While-Grinding. then i'd throw grenades into enemy skateshops while doing a nose manual in Tristram's local military skate park-base

posted a message on Diablo III PK and PvP
i'm totally guilty of being a PK for a while in Diablo 1. i wasn't trying to ruin people's fun or anything, i waited until someone killed someone else, then i'd track down the pk and offer him a real challenge. i think they called it "PKK." i enjoyed hunting the hunters. people thought they were cool enough to pick on lower levels and such, so i was there to give them a reality check, a taste of their own medicine.

but in D2 it seemed to really take from the gameplay. i mean, it was so backstabbing, with the Townportal-PKing and all that...it wasn't a hunt anymore, it was a slaguhter. the hunt was fun in D1 because you could escape the attacker in different ways because there was no instant death (besides the "hacks" of course) but in D2 there was no hunt...you were simply dead before you knew what hit you. now, i didn't care at all if someone PKed me unless i was on hardcore mode. Pking COMPLETELY ruined the whole concept of hardcore mode to me, because it isn't about PVP, it's about how much your character can handle PVE.

my point is...if it can be looked at as a hunt, or perhaps a duel, then it can actually be fun. but if it's just a backstabbing betrayal by someone that was in your party 5 seconds ago, or if it's a death that you never saw coming, then it's no fun at all.

i like WoW's system honestly. if you wanna fight, you play on a PVP server or you flag yourself. it's not a hunt or a slaughter, but rather an invitation for conflict. it's a way of saying "hey, come get some!" and it's a great way to find players who actually want to be "hunted" or to find those who think they are tough enough to handle anything that comes their way. it's fun.

posted a message on Blizzard Comments On The Classes In Diablo 3
the necromancer played a big part in the Diablo book series. after reading some Richard Knaak's books i really began to understand the role of the necromancer, and i really grew an appreciation for it. i have nothing against the idea of the Witch Doctor since it's such a neat idea, but it would be nice to see the necromancer return.

i must say that i am hoping for the paladin, and it's because of the combination of physical and magically enhanced combat (like Vengeance) but i'm kinda worried that they are straying away from characters that aren't purely one style of play. i hope they can find a place for either the necromancer (even if it is, perhaps, heavily reworked) and the Paladin (which may be overshadowed entirely by the Barbarian)

posted a message on Respec and Health Globes on Diablo III
i'm actually really excited to hear that we will have some ability to respec. i've been through many characters where i think a certain combination will work, only to realize that two skills don't actually work with eachother and so forth. people make mistakes, and specing your character wrong with no return is worse than your character dying a hundred times in a row, because in D2 there's no return. (well, except on Hardcore mode, in which case death is far worse)

but i don't think full respecing is really necessary. it can be fun to have two different characters of the same class that specialize in totally different things. i mean, you shouldn't be able to switch between an ice sorceress and a fire sorceress in an instant, because that would defeat the purpose of specs in the first place. so i'm glad there's going to be some limitations.

posted a message on Old fan of D2, New fan to this site
    hey everyone...anyone...

i'm Jordan, i've been a fan of Diablo since, well, Diablo. i'm into heavy metal (death, thrash, black, industrial, you name it) i've read all of the Diablo book series to this date. Also a big fan of Silent Hill and Metal Gear games. i don't play many games on the PC, but Diablo 2 is one of the few i play

i mostly play hardcore mode on D2, because of the challenge it offers. i got bored with just MFing and trading all the time because eventually there's nothing to trade for anymore, and i wanted a fresh start to enjoy the game from the beginning, without already having everything i need.

most of my characters are built simply for PVE, because i don't like the idea of creating a character for one speciffic purpose (i.e. just for mf in cows, or just for pvp, or just for rushing) it just seems to rip the life out of the game to make a character for just one tedious purpose.

posted a message on Diablo II LoD's Ending
the way i see it, the "ending" is the explanation for nightmare and hell modes. the destruction of the worldstone basically creates a time loop sort of thing, and you have to do it all over again, even though all your equipment is proof that you've already done it once or twice.

either would be fine, as long as it's still as fast-paced as Diablo 2. i can't stand how slow everything is in most (or maybe all) mmorpg's. *click*.....swipe.....miss....get hit by something....*click*....swipe.....miss...

posted a message on Adding a Hardcore dueling checkbox option
i'm a big fan of hardcore mode, but for PVM only. PKs absolutely destroy the idea of survival. it's like putting the guy in the show "Survivorman" into a wilderness...then releasing a T-Rex to seek him out. it just isn't right.

PVP can be fun, if you're prepared for it. i certainly never played hardcore to feel like a sheep or a wolf, but rather for the satisfaction of survival against all odds in a game designed for you to die frequently.

i have an idea though. storylinewise, we're all on the same side,in both Diablo and D2, right? so a PK is basically "evil", since they are fighting against those who would rather do good. perhaps rather than the WoW approach of choosing good or evil, good and evil could be decided by whether or not your charcter kills other players. that way pk's would be marked in some way, so people would at least have more of a warning than a hostility symbol a split second before you die at the edge of town or a tp...
