Old? I'm pretty sure I knew that already.
And keeping mental note of the "timer" before the health orb spawn is my nightmare. It reminds of UT2004 and how a shooter was eventually about nothing but remembering "when X powerup will spawn" and fetch it.
Power through powerups. Not for me.
Where would we be without you, Jake?

More people use reddit and social media afaik. That's probably not the case. Fan sites don't really get the support like they used to--a lot of them have to claw for it. I'm glad it reopened, though.

Strongly agree with these. The other bigger issue for me was definitely thematic, and I'm not just talking about the visual style. Vanilla D3 was very opposite of the message of the original series. I'm hoping what's-his-face is really bringing this back around, but I guess we'll see.
It feels like even playing a fresh character you get into uniques and sets almost immediately. In 2, you sometimes had normal-quality stuff with gems through most of normal, with an odd runeword (lod) or set piece here or there if you knew what you were doing. I don't like feeling like a decked-out war god so quickly.
They really should have gotten pvp arenas set up besides the one. I remember from BlizzCon or was it the WWI they showed off a couple with interesting LOS and traps and stuff and I was actually excited for that. Arenas would be perfect for Diablo.

I don't really either, honestly. But the PR around it was wrong, and any fan could have told them it was going to turn out poorly. The best solution would have literally just been a slide that publicly said the sequel was currently in development with like a piece of art, followed by a "we don't have anything else to say right now but it's coming." It felt odd at best and wrong at worst, and I think it speaks to either losing touch with the fanbase or losing the authority to communicate effectively due to decisions higher up.
I guess you're not saying any of that, but for discussion's sake I figured I'd say it

From what I vaguely remember from some random mutuals, they were planning on a D4 announcement within a couple weeks of the event but it got pulled for some reason. D4 being announced isn't even really a shocker, I'm pretty sure it was lowkey confirmed by implication shortly after the con last year.

This corroborates a lot of developments over the last several years, as well as other independent statements over the last couple months. Anyone that didn't think they were working on 4 were pretty wonky in the head as the writing has been on the wall for some time. That's what made the fact it wasn't announced even more frustrating.

TBH Trine is an amazing game. The original actually did remarkably well and is both simple and creative. It was fun 3-player coop on my ps3, never played it mobile though.
I'm honestly probably not going to even play this game because it's not being made for me, but there's the usual caveats of it being in very early development. They don't even have the inventory system down yet.
That said, what you show up there just looks like a mini-map from like a linear final fantasy title. Very disheartening. There's dialogue from the WoW team now and then, and other MMOs, about developing a true open world and just building a world designed to push players through sight-seeing tunnels. The latter is usually lacking in replayability.

Thanks for putting all of that together. There's a ton of interesting stuff like this coming out recently, and going back for a while. It's hard to keep it all straight. (Seriously thank you. +1)
On the domain level, at least for 3, I don't think it was finalized until like... very shortly before they were going to announce it. Weren't we given like 30 days or something? So, just because it's sitting in limbo doesn't mean it's not in the works, which tbh we all know is absolutely the case.

Yeah, literally just a big 4 on a slide would have been enough for me honestly. I don't want them to fall into the trap with D3 either where they announced and showed too much stuff far too early and what we got wasn't what was originally shown/said. But literally just a "it's in the works" would have been worlds better. We all already know it's in the works at this point, anyway, and we've seen a couple interviews over the last couple weeks post-BlizzCon pretty much confirming D4 is both in the works and was meant to be announced at the con and wasn't.
I think also working out a deal where "Netease" wasn't the first thing we saw on primetime BlizzCon on the main stage before a major announcement would have been nice. Seeing a totally separate company splashed across a Blizzard convention seems like bad faith, and it felt bad to me. (Although my understanding from talking to people since is that they technically already help Blizzard with a lot of overseas stuff with some of their games.)

I would assume the same price as the previous entries but idk. Amazon is listing it at $26.99, but that may be some sort of pre-order special. A full-price new version of the Tyrael one runs $29.95.
Also, just spitballing here, but I doubt they'll be in the Gear Store or they'd be open to virtual attendees which could conflict with a publishing/release agreement? It might be its own separate thing at the con. (Again, just putting that out there, I have no idea.)

For anyone that keeps up with the supplementary lore materials, the Book of Adria, which follows its predecessors like the Book of Cain and Book of Tyrael, has been delayed for the masses, but they did some sketchy stuff and are bringing some to the con ahead of schedule. The actual release date of the book will come sometime after the con, hopefully "soon" after.

D1 is still distributed and supported by Blizzard so I don't think it's abandonware
But welcome!

In addition to what aeri was saying and if you want some Sunday reading, the first iteration of Diablo 3 by Blizzard North was planned to be an MMO. I forget what magazine ran it, but I remember in like 2011 or 2012 it might have been GI ran one with lots of screenshots from Blizzard North's early Diablo 3 build--since I couldn't find that, here's just a Q&A.
Julian Love did an interview years later stating that the reboot the new Diablo team started in like 2005/2006 was briefly discussed as being an MMO, but they decided against it.

Well, shit. There's a big -1 to my reading comprehension. Got too excited.
