On the first comment: It was hypothetical to illustrate that the background should not be add space as it is a large portion of the homepage...

2nd note: If your trying to be clever I don't think it worked very well, leave the jokes to Bashiok. Diablo3 is not a Blizzard North production. I am playing Diablo2 right now but I will never play a game made in the future (i.e. torchlight) from a former Blizzard North. And we all know what happened to the original Diablo3. It was scrapped. Even if D3 was started by Blizz north it was in their prime because since they left, all of their games have failed.

The fact of the matter is the B:North started production on Diablo 3. That is not a joke, it is what it is. I don't doubt that a lot of concepts were taken and placed into Blizzard's D3, as you can see, both games are extremely similar.

Without a doubt Diablo 3 will blow it out of the water.. In all honesty, they're two cmopletey different company's, and Blizzard will be working on their game for probably three times as long as Runic did. But for now, our Diablo thirst should be quenched with Torchlight, since it's the closest thing we'll get to a new "Diablo" game in probably 3 years. And it's extremely cheap to buy too; the single-player version is $20, and the MMO will be free..

Once again, a few adds are not a problem, its the GIANT background one. It's overkill....

Oh, and I don't know what some of you are smoking but Torchlight looks like D3 the way a WOW custom game in wc3 looks like WOW. And thats being nice because with that, at least the engine is basically the same. You might be anticipating Torchlight but IM not! What am I anticipating?? The new Diablo2 patch! Because I am a DiabloFan, not a Torchlight fan.

There won't be any more ad space than what is already given. The background has been there longer than the ads have been as far as i'm aware.

On a side note. I will never play a game from those Blizz north guys again. Every single one of them has failed. Hellgate failed, Fate was a total failure. It was Diablo-fun. Did mythos ever even get off the ground?

I feel bad for the Diii.net guys. That sucks. If that ever happens here you will not see me come here anymore. I don't have time for adds to be forced on me. I'll get my news from Blizzard.com if thats the case.

If you aren't going to play Diablo3, then how can you rightfully call yourself a Diablo Fan? You do realize that D3 started production in 2004 if I recall correctly, by Blizzard North?

Yes, Diii.net does have a Torchlight ad, but I think ours looks better.

Then again that might just be bias. o.O

Besides, without the ads we would basically revert to a geocities-type site. >.>

One more thing, Diii.net is not part of Curse, so it's not only Curse that is doing the Torchlight thing. >.<

I wasn't saying it was only Curse, I was only speaking for Curse. IncGamers has a huge TL ad as well it seems like.

Aaaaah. Well why didn't ya say that in the first place? That would make sense that Runic Games would buy as much ad space on Diablo fansites. They probably did the same over at Diii.net. I never really understood how adspace was actually handled, I figured that there was like some sort of pool that Dfans admins get to pick from for ad space, because I have only ever seen low end game ads, that I can remember. So basically our ad spots are the pool, and whoever wants it buys it, and there ain't nothing you can do about it.

It is nice to get the real answer as to why those ads are taking up all that space after only 30 posts. ;)

Noper, as of right now, I don't have access to our Ads tools. Trying to get Curse to switch everything over to Google Apps for me so I can consolidate it all and run things from one account, ^_^. (i.e. Analytics, AdSense, etc)

I basically said the same thing, granted a lot less detailed, at the end of post#6. If you look on Curse's Website, there are big TL ads... I'm sure they're all over the Curse Network sites as well.

I get where you are coming from. Costs and all that. But you are taking up all 4 advertising spots with 1 ad.

As I said before, I am looking forward to Torchlight, I'm sure it will be a great game (minus some of the depth). But really, it is only, what, 3 guys who used to work for Blizz North? And weren't they booted from Blizz because they came up with a shoddy version and Blizz south didn't think it was up to quality. Anyways, I will surely get the game to support them, but I feel 2 ads for the game would be plenty.

That we covered our whole freakin front page with. Like I said, justify it however you want. That was not charity work.

You are right. Sixen said he put it up there to help the folks that designed Diablo 1+2, who now happen to design Torchlight. No reason to be angry, since it's not your website and you can easily ignore it.

The only reason this is true, is because Runic Games did a site buyout on Curse. They purchased all of the advertising spots. There's nothing I can do about this really. RG purchased the for sale ad spots, that is how business works. Curse sold them the ad spot, RG bought the ad spot, the ad shows up in the spot they purchased.

If I wanted to, I could have purchased the spot and put a giant picture of the Chat Gem there. And if it really bothers you that much, purchase the ad spot yourself... so I can put a picture of the Chat Gem there, ;).

First and foremost, we are a community of gamers that revolves a solid 15 year old hack-n-slash RPG that will be receiving a new title in a few years. With that in mind, our beloved Blizzard:North, the company who created D1/D2/LoD, separated from Blizzard and created their own Diablo 3-looking game called Torchlight. This game should fulfill our Diablo-appetite while we wait. If you haven't noticed, TL looks exactly the same as Diablo3, just more cartoonish, whereas D3 looks more realistic. While there are differences in the game, which i'm sure we'll be discussing in greater detail here soon, they are one in the same. I think it looks like a great game, and while I am a Blizzard fan to the soul, I feel it's OK to support a previously Blizzard-owed company. Torchlight is the closest we're going to get to Diablo3 until we actually start the beta testing. And don't worry guys... We aren't cheating on Blizz, ^_^.

As far as the Curse Torchlight Ad goes, we have costs in running the website (and network) and they have to be paid, new sites skins and hard work don't come cheap!

Odd... Can you try running in Selective Startup? This will stop other programs from running in the background. To run in Selective Startup, view the link below:

    Quote from "Taifu" »
I appreciate all the information and the attempts to help, but so far nothing has resolved the issue. My friend and I are still receiving the same messages about joining games. We both have configured our routers and firewalls to allow the ports. Also, we both have completely turned off our firewalls with our same configurations and still experience the same issue. However, I was able to join a random players game, so I don't believe it is a B.Net issue. Any other sort of ideas as to why we're unable to join the same game?

I suggest bypassing the router by plugging the modem in directly to your computer. That will tell us if the source of the problem is your router or not.
