Did you see the leaked beta screenshots? One in particular was of the following text:
Page of Training
Combine to form a tome of training that is used by Blacksmiths, Mystics and Jewelers to train their skills.
So what are these exacty?
Some ideas:
Upgrade your artisan a full level, bypassing material costs.
Randomly gives you a recipe.
Upgrades from a specific level to another.
What do you think? I'll be writing something on my blog about it this week but was curious to see if anyone here had additional information or ideas regarding pages of training.
Congrats! Looking forward to the coverage. I'm still hoping to get one for coverage of the auction house. Though I'm not sure beta will have a full auction house yet.
I read the post and laughed. Seriously, I don't mean to be condescending but he is only right about one thing in that post: diablo 3 is not world of Warcraft.
Market cycles are how you can dominate the diablo ah. Unlike in the real world, gaming cycles are easy to predict and the playerbase is mostly ignorant of them.
I made 2 million gold in wow because I understood market cycles an how players misuse the auction house.
Stay tuned to my blog, I seriously am going o try my best to let everyone who reads it make some money playing diablo 3.
#1 Market value for [sword of awesome] is $5
#2 AH camper knows this and is waiting for an unknowledgeable player to post below market so he can flip it.
#3 I find [sword of awesome]x5 and am aware that AH camper dude likes this item.
#4 I post [sword of awesome]x5 for $3 giving camper dude a $2 profit for each sword because I know he'll buy them to flip.
#5 I made $15, AH camper will profit $10
I wrote recently about Diablo 3 being free to play, well sort of. For better gamers, it will be possible to earn money playing the diablo auction houses. So let's consider for a moment that you make back the $60 you paid for the game... Does that mean that Diablo 3 cost you nothing?
Technically you spent time to earn the money, but you were going to spend that time playing anyway!
If you really want to play diablo 3 for free, then you need to prescribe to the mentality that you will not buy anything on the rmah that will not directly help you to make more money. So if you find a great deal on magic dust of awesome that you can flip next week for double the profit then that's ok. However, if you spend money every level to fill out lacking gear slots then you're going to pay to make someone else's diablo 3 free to play instead of your own.
Think about it and remember the success of the iPhone app store. There are people casually spending hundreds each year on 99 cent apps without even realizing it. The same will happen with Diablo's ah!
I think the problem is that your premise is still that some levels and bosses will be easier than others in inferno. Would it be easier to fight a level 100 Andariel than a level 100 Diablo? Is it easier to fight a level 100 fallen shaman than a level 100 fetish shaman? I could be wrong but I also remember reading that bosses will have additional abilities in inferno.
I'm sure that certain classes with certain runestone combinations will have an easier time with boss x. Then all players with that setup will farm boss x. Even if it's only a slight advantage.
The only issue with that is I think the idea of inferno is for you to want to play the whole level, not just run to the bosses, which is what your idea would promote.
They want you to enjoy fighting act 1 against fallen and hulks and advancing up to Andariel as much as doing continuous meph runs.
I am thinking if they do incentives, it will be based on clearing all of the acts type of setup.
Incentives will work if they are really good, i just hope that they are something other than gold. (players will already be max level so xp wouldn't make sense)
So inferno mode is all level 61 mobs with similar loot tables. I'm assuming bosses will be as well.
Problem: players will still take the path of least resistance. They will find the easiest level and boss to grind over and over.
Solution: instead of just incentives (blizzards current plan) i propose that bosses all drop their own necessary components for gear sets and weapons. This will force players to farm the whole game, not just the easiest sections (relatively for inferno mode).
Because you are obtaining money in an unfair/deceptive way and without the knowledge of the other bidders.
I've got a feeling this wont be a huge problem in D3 though.
Alright guys, you are answering my questing with my question and its quiet annoying.
The OP has made the claim that bidding on your own items is wrong. I'm asking how it is wrong/immoral/unethical/unfair and you are answering with because its unfair/unethical/immoral(in this context these words mean the same thing).
If some one is willing to pay a higher price for an item, then why is it wrong for the seller to up the price ?
It is wrong because players are deceived to believe that they are competing with someone for the item. IE someone else wants it badly as well. This creates false demand for the item and drives up price.
In diablo 3 there will be automatic bidding options on both auction houses. This means that you could theoretically use a second account (common on eBay auctions) to raise the bid of your item and catch the automatic bidding of people interested in your auction.
eBay has not tried to stop this type of activity because it's nearly impossible to do so. Will blizzard ignore it as well?
Will players try this?
I came up with the idea thanks to Rag on the d3 gold forums: http://bit.ly/qj58e5

I don't care if you close the thread, we can discuss specific implications in another one.

You're on the right track, just need to look into market cycles and you'll be good to go

It's completely unethical and impossible to stop.
