To me, hearing that the Talisman got cut is good news. Not because less content is better, but because they have discided that getting the game out this year is a priority and that everything else about the game is up to blizzard snuff. Going back to the drawing board with the Talisman sounds like a good addition for expansion 1.
This. The game needs to be out already, and I'm not saying that because I really, really want it. I say it because the game isn't getting any younger. They can add this feature when the time is right.
I am relieved that they cut the talisman, not because I didn't like it, but because it shows that they are finally getting real and making concessions when needed to get things moving. The wait for beta is killlllliiing me.
Expansion content, eh? Maybe something similar happened with charms in Diablo II, hence why they came with the expansion?
Possibly, yeah.
I think, while it might at first be lame to add the same thing for D3s expansion that they did with D2s, it would give them a chance to really really get it right, instead of tacking it on.
Bottom line is, I hear talk from Bashiok like "initial release of the game" and I get super happy! Even if it is when talking about cutting somthing.
I went back and looked again. I scrolled to fast down. The best one so far has to be the Whirlwind of the Barb. Wizard and Demon hunter are a tie for second best. Monk looks alright, but the Witch Doctor, not my favorite.
Oh, the wizard's ray of frost with the Indigo rune has got to be my favorite. I don't care, I can see myself running to the middle of the arena and spamming that without doing anything else, just for the awesomeness of it. Ofc then I'll proly die but that's just detail.
I know, wasn't that one great? And look at all the detail on the animation--her blowing clothes, her posture, even the special effects, themselves, look so awesome and legit It looks powerful! I hope it is. Don't let me down, Blizzard
Yeah, the detail was really amazing. I mean, Blizzard really scored this one. Even though they kept us waiting a long time, we can actually SEE the effort they're putting in the game. And well, it looks powerful, we can't actually tell until we've compared it to other stuff in-game but since it reaches a 360 degree radius, it looks like a really good tool to use against a swarm of weak melee mobs, what do you think?
I think they could have chosen a more interesting skill to show the rune demos on the witch doctor, right?
That was my point. Of all the skills I didn't want to see him puking up green acid slime. "What happened to you?" "Got puked on by a Witch Doctor in the PvP arena."
Yeah, one that would have been nice to see variations of would be the confusion one. I mean, can you imagine setting your opponents on fire before putting them to fight themselves? Would be awesome. Or maybe cursing them, reducing their armor so they die even faster when they fight, something like that
The acid cloud looks delicious, along with everything else. I was going to push off making a wizard until way later but that ray of frost looked and sounded awesome. Still starting with a WD though.
Not only the runes changes the graphical effect and function of the spells but also the sound effects. Every time there's a customization question in diablocast, the 3 always forgets to mention this system as another way to customize the look of your character.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
Puking on someone as a fatal blow is definitely a win in my book.
Compared to the farce that was corpse throwing of barb and rain of frogs/snake throwing from WD in a the blizzcon display, acid spit looks really good..
Don't get me wrong, puking on someone and killing them is awesome! (I hope my parents never reads this lol)
What I meant was, the variations of that skill weren't as interesting as the variations of other could have been.
I didn't think most of the Whirlwind skill variations were that amazing, visually. Mechanically, they have interesting things going on. But a few of them were just color changes with dust clouds.
Is it just me or is the old fantasy of having a unique character with a truly unique build actually going to be possible for the first time in gaming history? Seriously, do you know of any other game where your character can actually be customized this way AND be viable?
On the other hand, I can see a balance issue here. I mean, Blue has stated that balance will not dictate the game. But this must be within reason. Nobody wants to play a game where the Witch Doctor's Acid Cloud belch does 5x more damage than any ability in the game, given the right items. Maybe I'm just jaded, though.
If I remember correctly*, they're only not highly concerned with balance as it pertains to PvP, specifically. I think PvM should be fine in this regard.
Thanks to Force, we've got a nice video of the rune effects in the OP now. Just saying.
Damn that was fast! The video is really good, the text descriptions of the changes right next to the animation is something Blizzard should have thought of.

I would say that the visual will get drastically better with higher ranks of runes.. but I agree 1 or 2 of the variations of WW were underwhelming. But.. how do you visualize less furry cost? I like that they changed the sound as well though.
"extensive character customization is one of the primary design goals for Diablo III. Players will have many ways to customize and build each of the five character classes, including charms, traits, enhancements, gems, armor, weapons, dyes, skills, and the feature we're highlighting in this article: runestones."
that's from the site.. now, i see charms.. they'll jst go at the inventory like d2lod since we dont have talisman?
And I didn't really care for the talisman that much anyway, so no skin off my back. Blizzard doesn't cease to amaze because the graphics for the skills look amazing and powerful and the sound effects fit the characteristics of the skill to a point.
This is definitely something I'll be playing around with.

I think the WD has by far the coolest rune variations. I'll prob roll a Barb and a WD at the same time.
