I have not played Battlenet since 2003 and looking to make strange or ugly builds that no one would ever create and trying to get the character through Hell in hardcore mode. I have been playing mods for a long time and I am looking to see if unmodified D2 can still be a challenge for me.
I am thinking that Sacrifice/Thorns build will be a candidate for an Ugly build. I will not focus on defence and I will not use a shield. I may place some points into Charge for the first strike and then use Sacrifice for the rest of the mob.

Try untwinked Enchantress. I'm thinking about trying one once I finish my Assassin, and I'm positive that build will suck in so many ways it will be just hilarious.

A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head!

I built one on Battlenet and was quite effective. I used the 1.09 Burrisa(spelling). I had Duel elemental damage.
I might try a different style for the Sorc. A melee sorc that does not use Enchant and uses a Maul. I am thinking either all points into Strength or put all points into Energy since I would likely use Energy Shield and since she will be in melee she will take a lot of hits and will need the mana.
She will likely need an Act 2 merc with the runeword that grants Conviction when equipped.

PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Try this. Keep Meditation Aura active at all times (remember the Prayer synergy, so it's healing life too!) and spam Holy Bolt to heal your Merc (for an extra challenge, use an A1 or A3 merc) and kill undeads. If you want more offense, you might consider picking up Hammers or FotH.
I just remembered another build that some random was telling me his friend was going to try when I traded him a Head Hunter's Glory. It's basically a Chance-to-Cast Necromancer. I'm assuming you'd probably want to pick up a Golem and a curse too...probably Lower Resist. It's a melee build that relies on items that give a chance to cast Poison Nova (BOTD, Andy's Visage, Carrion Wind) and Bone Armor (Bone Rune Word...I'm not sure what else). Good luck.
I will build two versions of the Melee Sorc maybe even three. One will be a Titan Sorc and the other will be an all Energy Sorc. Both builds will be very aggressive and will not use a shield since shields are for pansies. None of the two builds will use enchant. This is a pure physical build. I think the Energy Sorc will use a 2-handed War Pike.

A big thanks to other suggestions.
I have made a naked Valc before in patch 1.09. I may try creating one that shapes into a bear if I do get the runes to make that runeword.
[edit]
I think I will make a FotH build at one time. I made a couple of them in Eastern Sun mod but that skill is really good in that mod.

Try a conversion paladin. Fanaticism would be an appropriate aura, I guess.
aka known as the missionary. since they nerfed thorns fanat would be the best choice, however bramble can still provide thorns. its a fun build in mobs but hard vs bosses until you get some really good equips.
a more item based char is the destruction assassin, since the destruction rw has a lot of really neat ctc spells. brand/bear melee necs...ctc chars can be really fun

^^
she has other fun builds too
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
And it's Buriza
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
The purpose of the Valkyrie is for her to kill everything for her apprentice which wields a staff.
Skills:
20 Valkyrie
20 Decoy
20 Critical Strike
20 Penetrate
7 Avoid
6 Dodge
6 Evade
2 prerequisites
Stats:
Whatever is appropriate.
Good luck, for only those truly worthy of becoming a Valkyrie will survive.
