I am curious if there is any information about the quality of loot that drops from enemies depending if you play single player or multiplayer.
If you are playing a game with four people in it and the monster difficulty is increased, will the monsters drop higher level items compared to if you played the game in single player mode and the enemies were not as difficult?
I know each player has their own loot tables but I was just curious of the quality of loot. (without the added bonuses fo magic find)
Nope, playing multiplayer changes only one thing: the difficulty of the monsters. The loot is exactly the same, and the MF gain for kills (no matter who kills the monster) is calculated based on your magic find.
-Rushing (everybody is already rushing in the Beta like crazy fanatics unable to speak. If thats your thing...)
-Its generally much quicker that way to clear areas, thus more loot per minute.
-It sucks.
I'm not going to play any multiplayer without a friend. I go at my own pace, HATE rushing. I see no point whatsoever in bothering with random folks, and there are none. At least if you do it with friends (good friends) they will bother giving you items you might like.
Well i have been searching and cant find either answer (yes or no) to your question. the two above me, please provide a source to your answers.
in diablo 2, the more players that join the game a few things happen.
1, being the monsters do get stronger (more damage, more defense, more health)
2, you and or your party get more experience per each monster slain
3, Loot dropped is better, more rares better stats etc..
now with diablo 3 having a personal loot system i don't imagine the loot will change depending on how many players are in the game at the time the monster is slain. so far what im aware of for the (RNG) of items is that your (characters level, magic find %, and Difficulty level) are all combined to equal your loot dropped..
that is a good question and i would love to see a official source answer to this question. i dont play WoW or Starcraft or else id post on the diablo 3 forums.

Same thing here, I canceled WoW and dont play SC2 so I cant post on the blizzard forums. In Diablo 2 I think as each person joined the game the enemy levels would go up which is where their increased difficulty came from so their loot table would have higher levels. This is what I believe to be how Diablo 2 works, correct me if I am wrong.
Do the levels of the enemy mobs increase as you get more people int he game or is it only stats that increase. It would be much easier programming I would think to just increase the enemy levels but I don't know what they did in their code.

It's as people described it, nothing really gets changed, except for the fact that stuff now dies faster (Because you have more people), and is harder for an individual player to kill by himself.
It's been discussed here ALOT. That's probably why nobody bothered to give a source.
I don't have time at the moment to look up the source, but Bashiok said this twice: once on the ol' classic forums and then he clarified it again on the new forums. Trust me, as of right now, the only thing that changes is the difficulty of the monster. No extra rewards are given.

about diablo 2, thats correct. you said the same thing i did just in a different way.
about your second question, if it is about diablo 3. it is the beta, everything is likely to change and blizzard has stated that. so as much as i would love to see answers to these questions, they simply cant and wont answer them yet. the beta is here for us to simply test its servers (stress test) is what there calling it.
lets say we did get a logical answer for this question, it is still the beta so it can and most likely will change. they have 4-6 months to do whatever they want to the game and us with the beta wont know about any of the changes.

i like this, as you see here someone else knows that things can and will change..

Oh yeah, I definitely think this is one of those things that Blizzard is still keeping a close eye on. The current model is kindof lame imo.
all i can say, is that jay wilson him self said that he wants this game to be all about multiplayer. it was in one of the videos about why hes not focusing much on PvP. so with that in mind, im sure there will be many different features added for multiple people playing online in one game with each other.
it would be kind of redundant to just make mobs die faster.. obvioiusly in inferno it would be nice but im sure there will be more features. would be a fool to assume other wise.

Here it is once on the new Battle.net board (I *think* this is what you're referencing), in response to "What's the point of multiplayer?":
Official Blizzard Quote:
The difficulty is tuned so that while it ramps up with each additional player you add, your combined power is faster at killing enemies than if you were to play alone.
Playing co-op means more monsters killed in less time, which means you're getting more chances at loot drops for time invested. As the game is largely based on hunting for loot and maximizing efficiency, it's a significant bonus. We don't foresee the need to incentivize co-op in any additional ways for the time being.
Multiplayer is supposedly better because change in difficulty is outstripped by change in killing efficiency, therefor more drops over a shorter amount of time. (In case you can't read blue text for some reason.)
(This sound right? I have all this glorious time to waste while I procrastinate doing my math work.)
well looking at it from a different way, since each character gets their own sets of loot, if you are playing with a good friend, using different characters, you can share your loot. Which means you have double the chance of getting items for your specific character, not counting mf.
Not sure about you guys, but I don't plan on rushing until I've played through the game a few times and really had the chance to experience the content. I feel like rushing was so big in D2 because everyone had played through 100x on every class and just wanted to experience endgame. Some people like to just compete for endgame right away. I'll be enjoying myself on the way to 60.

You know, I actually though the same way as you until I realized that I will be running over the same acts and story over and over for each difficulty...
So, is it really worth to go slow (solo) the first time? I mean, is not like we have to read a wall of text for each quest like in WoW, I am pretty sure that new speech lore thing (whatever it is called) will help me a lot listening to the lore while hunting for loot...
So I ask again, is it really worth to go slow in the first time? I'm not so sure about it now...
Everything is better done slowly. Not -super- slow but you know. Wait around and -appreciate-. Its always worth it. Had to get older to get that in my head, by the way.
There's a difference between going fast and rushing right? I mean rushing to me means skipping as much content as possible with the help of a higher level character doing the work for ya.
Going fast just means doing the content.. you guessed it, faster.
I do agree with SFJake though. Playing at a reasonable pace instead of clicking past whatever you can is definitely worth it.
However I think Diablo3's story mode is more tailored for people to actually be able to keep a fast pace up, even when you want to follow the story, with all the in-action lore stuff and such. I think it's a good mix :).
That's a bit off-topic though..
OnT:
So yeah, while there's no real "benefit" loot quality-wise to go multiplayer you do get some benefits. In addition to the more mobs killed/min by being more players you also do get more loot since, distributed across each character of course, but still. More loot is more loot, if someone gets something you need they can always trade it. For an item/gold or if they are exceptionally nice, for free :).
