Obviously people who order the collector's edition still want to play Diablo 3 ASAP when it comes out, so how do we do it?
Some people are resorting to buying 2 copies, one collector's, one not, just to do this. I think that is a bit... excessive.
One solution that I'm pretty sure will work is having a friend copy their pre-downloaded copy onto your computer, since with all of blizzards recent games it is the your account, not the game itself that each copy is linked to.
What this means is when you get the game all you will need to do is link the code your game came with to your account online then start playing, this would save the trouble of downloading it after you get the game.
The wishful thinking would be that pre-ordering with someplace like amazon would give you the code before being delivered, however of course canceling, among many other things would prevent this, so that could never be :(. Any other solutions people have though of?
Blizzard could just let people download the client. Without a registered copy on your b.net account, you won't get anywhere anyway.
I don't think they would risk some people datamining the release client and allowing everyone to know exactly all item stats, all bosses stats, and what are the secret levels and their bosses (with 100% certainty this time, unlike the beta which has "encrypted" stuff) even before release.
At least that's what I would think if I was a developer.
I don't think there is a viable solution. I understand people's desire to play ASAP, ie: the stroke of midnight, but how often have we actually been able to play at the moment servers go up? There's almost always some lag or server issue that delays my super happy fun time for at least 30 minutes. Plus, you will have YEARS to play D3.
Don't get me wrong, after I get my collectors edition I will hauling @zz home, foaming at the mouth, but I'm not going to be surprised if it's 1-2am before I start playing. The delay will give me time to check out all the awesome stuff in my collectors edition
I understand people's wishes to have it as early as possible but will it really hurt if you have to wait till the day of to play?
Yes
I'll be getting mine at (hopefully) a midnight launch event. If not, I'll be in line at the store when it opens at 10AM (my local game shop didn't have a midnight release for Starcraft 2, but did for Cataclysm. So, it's a coin toss for Diablo 3).

I've never heard such blasphemies! Midnight release mandatory for this title. Who would wait to play the #1 game release of all time? I will definitely be picking up my CE at midnight, i'm assuming the OP doesn't have access to a midnight release retailer or something?
Doesn't Blizzard let you download the client before midnight and it unlocks when the clock strikes 12? I thought they did that for SC2.
I'll probably end up buying a digital download of D3 while i wait for CE shipping. I don't think they'll hand out CE keys to people who bought the collector edition so they can start playing at midnight simply because most of us wouldn't even open our CE box and resell it.
How about if they added say a 3 day trial to your account if you buy the CE from them, starting at midnight, that way you can play while your CE is being delivered.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.
They really should just sell the CE the day before and not turn on the servers until 12:01 AM on launch day so everyone starts at the same time. Since it's online only getting the CE a day early doesn't give them any advantage.

Encrypt stuff just like beta and have a small patch on release that unencrypts.

Diablo was never about competing or PVP and it's not a mmo either.
No but Blizzard's not going to give anyone early access for buying the CE. This is simply a way of making sure CE fans don't get screwed out of a midnight start w/ their perks.
It should be like, if you buy the collectors edition on blizzards website, you just automaticly (spelled?) gets diablo 3 attached to your account. That would be both a win for blizzard and a win for the diablo fans.
You mean D3 CE key (not just standard).

I think we have all waited long enough to play it :P.
Yeah a bit of irony in that last post. Hehe =)
