It's been 10 years, Diablo 3 is a completely fresh game being created by a completely different team than the previous games. Embrace the in fact positive and refreshing changes being implemented. Stop nit picking over small things.
The game is getting closer to it's release, the beta has been going on for half a year, the classes are pretty solidified on where they are going to stand, that's just the way it is.
I played and loved the previous games for over 8 years, and I don't know about anyone else but I'm ready for a totally new experience in Diablo 3, I'm not someone clinging in the shadows of Diablo 1 and 2 demanding that hardly anything but content and graphics change.
It's Diablo '3', not an expansion, meaning new game, not same game with more content and graphics bump.
There are passive skills that boost the power of basic attacks (Demon Hunter's Fundamentals and Wizard's Virtuoso - also they are viable for barbarians too once basic attacks generates Rage ). Why they are cool and why basic attack should exist in D3 ?
Why do people still bring these skills up when they've been removed from the game?
B/c they were interesting and promoted varied gameplay. Like Mystic enchants used to (which they also removed). It's not okay to remove tools and abilities which help non-traditional or weird variants, so while they're "streamlining" things so you don't need basic attack, it's not a positive development. Unless they give new skills to help out melee hunters and wizards, but I doubt that's coming. Also, related, is Magic Weapon still in the game?

The Mystic is a terrible loss to the game. It was one of the features I was looking most to try out.
However, sadly I cannot empathize on the basic attack issue. I never used it in D2 and usually go for other attacks in most games, so it doesn't that severe to me.
The more the game is pushed forward, the more it fails:
- Basic attack removed
- No swapping weapon mechanics
- Rune system being modified in the wrong way
- UI so crap.
The longer this game is taking to be released, the worst it gets. Even worst, they will definetly release that fuckin game right when the weather gets great and i won't get to play because i will have better things to do. They should just fire some of the guys on this team taking those wrong decisions, rethink the whole thing and wait for next winter when people are stuck indoors for release.

I never used basic attack in D2, but when I saw Magic Weapon, Virtuoso and Fundamentals, I figured they figured out a way to make it interesting. They had a plan to make basic attack somewhat attractive in certain situations and builds, but then they abandoned it. And melee Hunters are now a pipe dream. How can they have so many awesome Ninja skills (grenades, chakram, smoke screen, vault, daggers) and won't let them wield two handed katanas? Unleash the Ninja!
Since when has a rating or age limit stopped anyone at anything. If kids can get booze and cigs they can get a video game.
Never said it stopped them from it, but a game made for 18+ should be made for 18+ not for 18-. wHo the fuck is 18 years old actually and never played diablo 2. Give me a break.... Casual player my ass. There's no casual players above 18 years old. They designed this game for kiddies imho and this is a shame and is really disappointing for hardcore players. Customization for me goes far beyond a broken runestone system. It is about macros, weapon swapping, and being able to decide wether or not i wish to have basic attack as a tool for myself.
Removing the Passives that benefited Basic Attack was a huge blow to customization. In fact every class should of had a passive to improve their basic attack. I could see it being overpowered, but if that was teh case, why not just nerf it?

It was not imbalanced at all. Blizzard picked there nose too much out there. Now, they are running out of time and they are being wreckless. They are removing stuff from the game and making crappy decisions.

Saying something shouldn't be in the game because it isn't as good as other abilities, is like saying there should only be one best build that everyone should play with, because everything else is sub optimal. Taking away a basic melee option just removes more possibilities in the game, even if they are not the best choices. I thought everyone vehemently defended everyone having their own way to play, and more customization? I don't really understand how anyone can argue against having this.
I thought blizzard was behind making random builds like melee casters, hopefully it was accidentally taken out, and will be in before release. Melee sorc was one of the most iconic random builds from diablo 2 for me and I hope it isn't lost with the wizard.

Okay I can see that too.
Whats with the crazy conspiracy theories? Its simple....basic attack added nothing to the game, and would have been confusing to new players. Since blizzard is trying to ensure your momma can play this game, that was an obvious design decision. And even from a more hardcore perspective, I didnt want it either.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
It's a slippery slope from here to a change such as "Barbarians can't use a bow," etc., and I think a lot of the fun and memorable moments from D2 came from just that sort of creativity.
I'm pretty sure the barb can't use a bow in D3. My buddy has the beta and I think he mentioned something about it. And I agree, fooling around with stuff like a bow barb was awesome when you were bored.
Since when has a rating or age limit stopped anyone at anything. If kids can get booze and cigs they can get a video game.

I have friends who are casual gamers who are looking forward to Diablo 3. They are 22 years old. In fact, "hardcore", "pro", "ub3rl33t" neckbeards actually make up a tiny proportion of any game's demographic and Blizzard would be stupid to pander solely to them. D2 was MA15+. Also, the R18+ rating doesn't exist for games in Australia and the game would therefore have to have been classified as "unrated" there, making it illegal to sell.
Basic attack will be and always was useless at mid and late game. You can always pick 5 skills and keep your basic attack if you like it THAT much. But with resource generator/user system, you should use skills that generate resource or use very little of it instead of using basic attack.

Yes, it might be useless for all caracter's having ressource generator skills. But the witch doctor as no ressource generator skills and this fact makes the idea of removing basic attack senseless. For example, i wan't to recast gargantuan which cost nearly 900 mana but i am out of mana. I will have to wait without attacking until i regenerated 900 mana??? This just makes no sense at all! It is broken nothing more. What is the big deal about keeping basic attack in the game? there's no point in removing it even if it is crap and you won't use it at all.

Even if your a uber newb and don't have a clue about the game, the point is that you just keep practicing until you get good. Now, even my 2 years old girl could be good at this game from the scratch. There could've been much more challenge in mastering this game if you ask me. Now, everyone is just zombified by blizzard and that's just what they wan't. The other way around would've asked much more work into the game for balancing etc. Now blizzard as it the easy way.

Gargantuan won't be the only attack spell you have. If nothing else, you can use Poison Dart or any of the various other low cost mana spells you might have.
