So I watched all my favorite sci-fi shows right now and I'm out of stuff to watch. I wonder if I missed some little series somewhere, or a new one is coming up. There are some older shows I'm pondering but know too little about. And to make this thread less self centered you can just discuss sci-fi shows in general. You're free to tell me that I like horrible shows and dislike great shows and stuff.
No shows that feel old, mainly these are like pre 1990 or something (Outer Limits, Quantum Leap), as well as their reboots. Star Trek, BSG, Stargate, Doctor Who, etc., not that I have anything against them I'm just not in the mood of watching these really long complicated shows right now lol, and I always have to start with the originals which is a problem. And cartoons are not shows, they're cartoons. I would prefer newer shows to older ones, and I'm aware of most of the popular ones like LOST... obviously. It's the less popular ones I am interested in.
Shows that I watched among the more or less recent ones and how I felt about them. If it's not there I probably haven't seen it properly. Everything below 6/10 generally means I didn't enjoy it and did not want to continue watching it, and 6/10 is "good":
Fringe: 7/10 //On hiatus.
Heroes: 8/10 //Cancelled. Fuck you, NBC. Fuck... you.
Lexx (S1): 10/10
Firefly: 7/10 //Please don't kill me.
Sliders: 6/10 //Pretty neat show but the execution could have been better.
Star Trek (TOS): 8/10
Star Trek (TNG S1-S3): 9/10
Stargate SG-1 (S1-S3): 5/10
Farscape (S1-S3): 5/10 //Eh, Stark made the show why did they have to kill him...
Earth: Final Conflict (S1): 7/10
Charmed: 6/10 //I watched all seasons of this (I almost never watch beyond 4 seasons). Thrice. o.O Hence the mention.
I have no idea why it was cancelled. Above average ratings and views really, as far as I know, but "omg, the show was not doing as well as the first season." Its like too many people didn't move from that point of view.
I swear if Season 1 was not considered so good, the show would still be around. I really hope the show will come back from this... its not impossible, but really unlikely.
I wasn't sure about BSG at first myself. I thought I should watch the original first, too. But then I said screw it, lets just watch it. And I think it was a brilliant ride. And I don't think its "complicated", though it is deep.
Since you're looking for sci-fi shows mostly, I can't really say I know many. Here in QC I'm not really made aware of many shows and I need to dig for them, so I miss most of them. The only other show I'm "really" following these days is Supernatural, which is obviously not sci-fi.
Although.. if you didn't like Stargate SG-1, you could try Stargate Universe. Its a unique spin to the serie, feels really different from the other Stargates. I think its worth watching.

Yeah, I don't know. It was improving and so much cool stuff was happening and I was really excited for next season and... bam... they cancel it.
Heroes has a hate club though, they may have buried it, after all. Viewers are slooooooow they need like a season to turn around, another to like it again. Dunno, networks are just stupid. I still dread Fox will randomly cancel Fringe since it's not the most popular show and Fox loves to randomly cancel shows anyway.
I recently finished watching Deep Space Nine all the way through. It's interesting to me how stubbornly good that show could be. Yet you had to get through like ten episodes at a time before you'd be due for a really good one. But the good ones were quite...good. I love the tech talk in that show. Especially anything to do with phase. Phase inducers, phase variance coils, phase modulators, like, there's a ton of phase going on in that show and I'm always dying to know what all these phase devices too.
Firefly was pretty good but never watched it for too long. I understood what was appealing about it, but never stayed interested in it for too long.
I was watching V for awhile, but it all feels so trite. Caprica was good too but I keep hearing rumors that show is getting canceled but I can't seem to find out for sure. I'm not seeing much else on the horizon that looks promising. But I will keep an eye on whatever Ronald Moore is doing.
The stargate movie was ok when i watched it the first time when i was super young, but i thought all the series sucked until stargate universe. You should really give that one a go. If you know what a stargate does, and the basic lore that you can learn in 5 minutes on a wiki, then you're set, and it's a fantastic show, almost as good as the new BSG.
I know you said it feels old but Battle Star Galactica is an amazing SciFi show I am currently addicted too this one myself
Edit: and I am talking about the new BSG not the old one from the 70's
Mm hm. One of the best things I've seen on television for a long time. It was way better than Lost too. Where are you at? I'd discuss it more openly but I'd hate to spoil anything for you.

BSG Spoilers below
I am on Season 4.5 I just finished the 2 part episode where the crew try to take over the ship
Yar, Andromeda is actually decent.
Watched it briefly back when it was one of the few decent shows Fox ran, it wasn't incredible, but it wasn't shitty.
I'd give it like a 6/10.

Red Dwarf was just always one of those those that I'd only watch late at night on PBS when I was tired and nothing else was on. Like, it's a good show and everything. It just has this nice sleepy quality about it.
BSG Re-Imagined is a billion times better than its predecessor, but its overall concepts aren't too complicated. Stories tend to revolve around ten (give or take) central characters - like most Sci Fi's like Star Trek. (Keep in mind, Ronald D Moore, the creator of the new BSG, was also a writer/produce for Star Trek DS9). Concepts are generally human nature, religious controversy, political controversy, and space battles.
All I can say is, give it a try. It's not for everyone, so if you don't like it, don't finish it. It's only four seasons though (way less than Farscape or SG-1).
Yeah Moore actually was getting fed up with Star Trek, or at least with their producers for their unwillingness to evolve the show and take more risks with it. It was a big reason he went on to do BSG.

Flash Gordon may interest you and it lasted only a season. I found it was OK.
SG-1 gets better after season 3 and then it gets worse after season 8.
I loved Earth: Final Conflict
Flash Gordon, I may check it out, especially if it's only one season. Can I have a faint clue on what it's about?
Yeah, I don't know. It was improving and so much cool stuff was happening and I was really excited for next season and... bam... they cancel it.

Dunno, maybe we'll get a movie like Firefly, but I don't think Heroes was anywhere near as well-received. And tbh I want a series, not a movie.

BSG Spoilers below
Well, there are only like 14 episodes of firefly TO watch.
I read something on sci-fi about it I think they decided to keep it, at least for a few more eps but I don't know much about it.

My favorite Star Trek series was Deep Space Nine. The first season was not that good but it picked up in the second season.
I liked the original BSG from the 70's better than the reboot.
I was considering Andromeda, though, I'd suppose it may be like EFC a bit.
Watched it briefly back when it was one of the few decent shows Fox ran, it wasn't incredible, but it wasn't shitty.
I'd give it like a 6/10.
I really liked Red Dwarf. I was looking at buying the series but the stores in Canada want too much for it.
