I don't know what to say, everyone loves anon until they go and screw with something you need or approve - PSN, that nasty work releasing the names of marshals or rangers..
Wasn't Anon. Many media sources will claim it was or try to draw links to them but it wasn't them, they even stated it wasn't them. If it was I'm pretty sure they'd take credit.
Great video by the way. I was wondering when I'd hear about the backlash.
I don't know what to think of this. Being a lawyer I can't decide which side is right. Their purpose is worthy, but the way they try to achieve it is mischievous, so it's hard to take them seriously like Wikileaks (partially at least?).
I'll see where this will go and try to understand the situation better.

Well, judge their actions, not what they say. When I see them on the 6 oclock news, it does make me raise my eyebrow a bit. We'll see what happens.
I wonder if they bought their masks at hot topic...

I almost became a mole within the anonymous 'think tank'. I had to solve two ridiculous complex puzzles (which took me hours and only a few others passed -- out of over 100) to reveal a password that I would then mention to a specific person on IRC. After the person received the correct answer to the puzzles, he linked me to a .rar file containing further information. The rar was password protected with the answer to the puzzle. Within the file were documents on how to continue the application process and how the organization was structured and operated (not very detailed). It asked what areas I had proficiency in, why I wanted to join the cause, etc. I sent in the requested information (which was quite lengthy but they didn't ask for any sensitive info) and was approved to continue. I was told to simply recruit 10 more people using the same puzzles and files I was tested with. This was in order to prove I wasn't trying to join simply to troll because it required a bit more effort and time to accomplish. At that point I stopped the process because I didn't want to become part of something that could eventually get me into legal trouble.
Now they didn't claim to be 'anonymous' but claimed to be a force around the planet with numbers growing steadily -- apparently planning operations and carrying them out. So I'm guessing that's them and I'm certain the FBI, NSA, and/or the CIA already have at least a couple of moles that know all about the people behind the anonymous hackings. They'll just wait in the shadows for months or years until they follow the tree of anonymous down to every root. In my opinion anyway. :-)

I make sure people go to jail. The only thing more fun is Diablo 3.
Even if they were to arrest every "lead" member of anonymous right now, which I don't think they have a very structured hierarchy like that, more people would appear. I don't condone everything they do but I do think the media likes to demonize them, when in reality they're just giving the government some hassle.
It's like trying to take out Terrorism, it can't happen, or Freedom for that matter.
I like anonymous, but they do things that can land them in prison, IDK why they don't just ghandi them and just stand outside of congress or something. They can't be arrested for protesting, but they can be arrested for releasing private information and such. That is why i support their ideas but not all their actions.

They can be arrested for protesting though. And people have been arrested for peaceful protesting. Remember back when the Thomas Jefferson memorial protest was held over the arrest and prosecution of the lady for protesting peacefully?
A de-centralized force showing the American government that the American people are not afraid of them has given more results. And it's safer then the peaceful public protests too, considering the chance of the police arresting them is far lower. (Because, you know, it's not a public protest, it's a far removed protest attacking something those in Washington hold dear.)

To this though, I don't understand how our government can arrest peaceful protesters in a democracy. Isn't that the point of Democracy to be heard and have the freedom of speech? Are we supposed to lie down and take what they give us like in a dictatorship? That is not what i recall learning about . When we vote for new leaders in our world do they really pull through on their promises? Some maybes, Most of the time, No. It is sort of sickening to see how we are shut down as the leaders of the government. Direct democracy is a much more viable approach to a government i believe, but the problem is the amount of people is far too great for it to be viable in america as a country, Stateside i believe it could work. I believe that is how it should be, A federalized government that is just their to take care of intrastate commerce and all other things such as Social Security, DoD, and any standards such as currencies and what not, but on a state level things should be much different, and should be voted on in a Direct Democracy so it is truly what the people want, and not what is wanted by those in congress alone. There are obviously problems with my train of thought but i believe it to be a much mroe viable option than a democracy where it is basically legalized False advertisement.

I know a lot of people will call this a conspiracy theory but the government will hire people within the protest to throw rocks and firebombs so then it turns into a riot and it's all dismissed.
This is an excellent video that shows how protests get dispersed by the government and people's rights get abused. It's a very entertaining watch even if you don't like this sort of thing.

Perhaps I know too much of history to appreciate all this, but I seriously hate the V-mask shtick. Guy Fawkes was a catholic zealot who wanted to bomb the house of lords, not to end an authoritarian regime, but to institute a new theocratic one.
There's absolutely nothing heroic about what he (Fawkes) did unless you're a vatican-worshiping nutter who thinks the world would be better off under the rule of Emperor Benedict XVI.
That said, V was a pretty good movie and I really have no opinion of the elite hackers in question here. Just dropping the historical buzzkill.

Now that the FBI is going after Anonymous, I cannot wait to see the full force of Anonymous come crashing down upon the American government.

there has to be balance or it can lead to demise of civilization as we know it.
roman empire grew too big and collapsed within itself.
The empire growing too large, the military unable to protect all the boarders, the corruption of the Senate, etc.
Never has the freedom of speech been a liability, except to those that would control us.
