Exactly. I don't want to worry about virus protection software, firewalls, viruses, cookies, etc. Virus protection takes up some ram and even with the best protection and being smart about avoiding stuff on the net there's always some junk that gets through. I would like to keep my nice new gaming computer working in top condition for as long as possible.
That and I don't have a lot of interest in playing multiplayer games when I can't talk to the other player in the same room. I have gotten into a few games online here and there(TFC, Delta Force 2, even D2 for a few months) but ultimately I prefer to play games with people in the same place.

Haha weirdest excuse ever.. "i have nice good computer I don't wanna plug it into internet because it might get nasty out there!". To keep your gaming computer in top condition you might wanna go online to receive updates to your OS and hardware drivers... they aren't bug free.
I've been online for many years and I've yet to see any trojans, viruses or anything.
Currently i'm running a free firewall/antivirus software that eats a WHOPPING 4mb of ram. I wouldnt even need that piece of software tbh.. Just don't download those 2shemales.exe files or visit crack/porn/item selling pages with IE.

This is a complete lie unless you are the luckiest person in this world.
You don't need to download .exe to get shit if you don't take more precautions than an anti-virus and firewalls.
There's a difference between saying you're unhappy LAN has been left out and saying that it shouldn't have been left out.
Agreed. I'm certainly the former of the two.

then dont play online?
Precisely the plan. Like I said, I don't have a ton of interest in playing online anyway. I liked LAN and a lack of it means I probably wont be playing multiplayer but I'll still happily enjoy the single player. With schedule conflicts and time constraints, the vast majority of my gaming is single player anyway.

kid was freaking bout goin online with his new "super deluxe gaming pc"...
Now now, there's no need to be hostile. I just said I prefer not to put my other computer online and upon further questioning explained my reasons. That's hardly "freaking". Also, you don't need to put quotes around something you paraphrased.

You know the stupid thing is even if they don't include it, someone will create a mod that adds it, even if it isn't easy. You know somebody will.
That'd be great but for whatever reason I suspect that would be a more difficult mod to make. Granted I don't know much about how to make mods and what can and cannot be easily done.

Sure I know that.. but still I really haven't had any troubles at all.
Back when I started roaming the net I used opera where there wasn't really any exploits at that time.. and recently been using firefox with adblock and noscript to keep the most nastiest things away. And yeah they haven't bite me yet.
You don't need luck to keep away from viruses.. just some knowledge.
Anyways what kind of person doesn't use internet these days if they have the opporturnity.. Avoiding risks.. thats like not driving a car or going out of your home because something "might" happen.

Then you are not only using what you said, using noscript alone on firefox changes -a lot-. A lot of people are not aware of that, yet it changed my income of virus or trojan extremely.
Still I get some occasionally. Everyone does. I get them removed. Once, I had absolutely no protection at all (on an older computer), yet despite the thousands of virus nothing bad happened.
But my friend did the same for 1 week and that computer pretty much went to hell for that.
My point is there is always a chance for you to get anything, and there is nothing wrong in someone keeping his gaming computer offline at all times to avoid all risks, because there is no safer way to avoid these problems.

Damn dude, thats like saying u just bought a nice brand new expensive car but you not gonna take it out for a drive because someone might crash into you. just a bit silly!!
i do agree however that to play with buddies we shouldnt be limited to having to play online. Some people are saying that LAN is old school and why should Diablo bother with LAN. Well thats just a pile of BS because if you decided to stop being so arrogant and realise that not all countries have super fast and cheap internet in this world!!
Oh and there will be D3 mods for LAN whether Blizzard want it or not
"You know the stupid thing is even if they don't include it, someone will create a mod that adds it, even if it isn't easy. You know somebody will."
I agree with Ranim that someone will just make a post release version of LAN for D3 so as far as I am concerned Blizzard should just include it in the original release, not only will they make money from people who buy it because of that but also buy more than one copy of it because they have more than one computer. This is what I do when I like a game, however I am at the moment viewing D3 as a single player game.

Well yeah but then the person don't need to whine that he can't play online games?
Seriously Online games have become so big thing lately that refusing to plug your gaming computer online is just a persons own shame..
But yeah everyone makes decisions and if he wants to play single player only thats the persons own choice.
Battle.net 2 experience with Diablo 3 will probably be a HUGE step forward in blizzards online gaming that I wouldn't suggest anyone to miss it.
Ofc those without internet access aren't happy about it
Yeah true, but as bilzzard stated, LAN playing should be somewhat light weight, meaning that most of the traffic will go trough your switch to other LAN members. Battle.net only used for authentication and logging in. So perhaps if your connection can bear to log in to battle.net and start a new game you should be fine?:)
If they are planning D3 to use bnet like Half Life 2 uses Steam, I hope they let you config the time out. I played HL2 in single player mode when they were up'ing my Internet bandwidth a few weeks back and my connectivity was down. I sat there waiting for Steam to time out it's attempts to connect to the Internet for over 2 minutes before I could start my game. That kind of sucked.
