Looking at the trailers of all the new D3 characters and stuff, I can't help but think "wow..this is childish and boring". D2's cinematics were amazing..Marius himself beats any D3 cinematic. The voice, the content, the quality, and the general vibe of D2's cinematic is just amazing.
D3's shown trailers aren't cinematics, I know..but they are basically what cinematics will look like, I suppose. If that is indeed true, then I would be deeply..DEEEEEEPLY disappointed.
Don't have much to say except I agree. What we saw, especially the Monk's cinematic, was quite frankly, sad. Nothing I'd ever want for Diablo. I'm not in the "wow is taking over Diablo" crowd, but they definitively made it all look and sound a lot more childish and boring, be it cinematics or the game itself.
i've read (sorry can't find the source), that they didn't have time or resources to make class introduction cinematics, and they just made the scenes from the actual game engine.
the plot related cinematics should be epic compared to the garbage the monk/wizard intros are.
You can look at the Blue's post on the Diablofans main page, it says that there will be much better cinematics. I'm betting much like the D3 opening cinematic. Why would Blizzard regress? Their machinima style is to show people the new classes, a tease, that's all.
We keep saying it, trust Blizzard.

Oof, the opening cinematic was pretty awful too if you ask me Cyanide-Tipped but I agree with the rest of people's points. The cinematics we've seen so far were rushed and apparently not things that Blizzard payed much attention to. The actual Diablo 3 cinematics should be better.
These are simply previews...Not REAL cinematics. How does it escape you that these are simple creations using the in-game engine?

the "bad" graphic cinematic are just in game video's rendered from the game it self, the cinematic from D2 you are talking about are remade like recordings, and are played over and can not be changed or edited.
But still the actual cinematic for D3 are MUCH better than the D2 cinematic.
There is only 1 real cinematic so far, and that was the announcement cinematic. The two class intro videos are made by Blizz zooming in the camera during gameplay.
I still can't believe people are confusing the two. I thought it was pretty freakin' obvious that the class intro videos were not pre-rendered cinematics.

Lets look at the facts. The D3 trailer was in full CG glory. In my opinion it beat anything before it, save maybe the Lich King trailer which I'm also very fond of.
However all the cinematics after that have been to introduce the classes into the game. How could they make a cinematic for each one? And why would they get our hopes and aspirations up with a cinematic version of the class, when all we will ever get to see is the ingame version?
And lets not forget that the heroes of Diablo remain anonymous. In Diablo 2 there were never any hints or indications of which heroes brought down the Prime Evils, nor did any of them get any camera time. The most you saw out of any of them is the hand on the hammer as the Soulstones were destroyed.
Though I'm not a big fan of ingame cinematics, we still have to consider the other things about it too. I would love some nice video on how glorious a barbarian can be, but I don't think that fits in very well with the rest of the series. Perhaps the cutscenes will show something of the classes, and definately show more of Sanctuary.
I'm a lover of CG and epic cinematics, however I'd have to go with the unfortunately truth that it just is too costly, and too small a thing to worry about when they are no doubt working on the actual game, its sequels, and not to mention all the other things they have in production.
I don't know if CG for Blizzard is shared by all the franchises, or if each department has their own dedicated artists, but if they're working on SC2, WoW, D3, and some unannounced MMO, then we're just going to have to do with what we got. And that would be an epic Diablo roaring.
Well, from a video posted on here a while back, I recall seeing that Blizzard does have their own dedicated artists to making cinematics (not sure if they rotate on work depending on the release of a game or make all cinematics at the same time). Switching back and forth between projects doesn't make much sense to me but I'm not a digital artist or anything.
And regardless of that point, those cinematics still take many months to make. I am almost sure there will be cinematics in Diablo 3 of very high quality, like the announcer one. Between each act though, that'll we'll just have to see (but consider it probable).
I do love a good cinematic though, whether it be Starcraft or Warcraft too.

Pretty sure they got one shared cinematic team for all their projects.
Who has likely been at hard work on SC2 cinematics.
Beside Blizz has mentioned before how many months of work goes into making those CG videos. Its probably not the best use of resources to make a bunch of class videos, unless some of the work would be used anyway for the game (which I believe is the case for at least some of the SC2 CG videos they have shown).
in the end, what count is not the cinematic inside trailers. What matter is the game.
What Blizzard is doing is giving you something to keep you waiting. However the last trailer was so bad, it was a waste of time for the Diablo3 team to even work on it. Moreover it may have the opposite effects on many fans.

All of the cinematics made in recent games released by Blizzard have been done by their cinematics team.
and of all the "cinematics" released on D3 only the intro with Cain and that girl was probably done by the Cinematics team
the demo intros were just that demos that the D3 team put together to showcase the characters
i would be disappointed if those made it into the game as is
The announcement cinematic (which is the only real cinematic) was awesome.. Those class announcement trailers were not so impressive but perhaps better than plain gameplay trailer. They probably tried to create some atmosphere about the character with the trailers. Like the wizard being this young arrogant woman that went straight ahead to beat down the Leoric.
