So, I'm not sure if anyone has said anything about it, but is the AH the ONLY way to trade, or is there player to player trading that removes the need for the AH?
Also, I am an econ student almost graduated, and this whole scenario is going to be a great economic experiment. That being said, I'm not happy that I have to be a part of it. lol

I have heard about player to player trading in D3 but its not as easy as going to the ah and anyone can buy stuff you put up. Just like other games with ah

It is my understanding that you will still have in game trading between players, but it will just be more difficult to find/sell, as it was in D2. However, if I am wrong, someone please correct me.

~ Some people are still alive only because it is illegal to kill them ~
I believe that the AH is a great idea and am excited to be part of it when D3 is released. That being said i think that one of the best things that blizzard could do to sitimulate the economy right from the begining would be to offer a collectors edition game with fan art and some other goodies that you could spend an extra say 30 dollars extra then just buying the regular game and in addition to the goodies recieve a code for like 20 dollars Bnet cash to spend in the RM AH. this would get the money flowing right from the getgo and we would not have to wait for the money spenders to infuse the economy with enough cash to bring down the price of items. Thoughts and comments????
This doesn't stop D2JSP or other 3rd party sites from selling Hardcore items. All Blizzard did was cut half of their profits; I think Blizzard should still have an AH for HC. People will still use these 3rd parties if they want to buy their items with risk of losing items upon death or not. It will be like D2 HC then, everyone would want FG and trades would rarely happen. I think Blizzard is underestimating how many people do play HC and how many do buy items or trade of D2JSP despite any risk of death.
And yes, I still am 100% for the RMAH - it's about time it was done and if successful, I can see other gaming companies adding this to their games. Wait and see how much profit Blizzard makes from this, $$$ will be in all the developers eyes.
I can't belive I haven't see this mentioned but I think one thing that people are missing the most is the option to be able to trade item for item. I know you still can but you have to do it in D2 sytle creating a game called "Godly Axe 4ur Godly Staff." Why can't they add a function to the auction house that puts the Item I want to trade up on the block, the kicker is I must be online for it to show up on the Block. So if me a buyer is looking through the AH and see someone has a Godly Axe for trade I can click on it and join that persons game or chat channel and we can hash out a trade just like we used to. Once in the game the trade window comes up w/ the item you want and then you can drag your offer over to the trade window and they can either accept it or deny it. Also you could have a comment field in the Trade Auction so you could give a brief description of what you are looking to get for that Godly Axe. That way it would cut down on someone entering the room and then seeing your a Wizard so you probably don't want a Bow for that Godly Axe.
This way you would have 4 options for getting gear.
1.) Kill the Monsters yourself and get it.
2.) Find the item you want on the Gold AH, this requires you having ingame Gold
3.) Find the item you want on the $$ AH, this requires you to have an e-balance
4.) Find the item you want on the Trade AH, this requires you to have gold, or any other item that you can trade.
I think this would be good for every type of player, It would definitely give the "Purist" the option to not have to sell that item for $$ and then buy something for $$. Even though money never came out of their pockets.
Come on Blizz please incorporate this version of item for item trade I think it would make everyone happy.
lets face it, Chinese gold farmers will most likely ruin the value of gold in the long run, (they will increase the supply to a large amount) while the demand will stay undisturbed.

Working with adobe and/or java is like pushing a paper clip against a building and expecting it to move...
What's funny is that botting will be a huge problem in D3 because by getting good items you pretty much making money, but thing is blizzard is making more money when you sell more items, so it's possible they won't really try to fight bot users. More bots = more items = more profit for Blizzard.
they wont, the only reasons they were banning in d2 was for increased demand for cd-keys and nice media posts "blizzard bans 10 000 !"
now that it makes money blizzard will be sure to ban only the small time normal people who use bots, as always (notice how after a diablo 2 ban the spam bots are rarely affected.)
and if anyone thinks i'm wrong about this, (the counter argument is usually "blizzard bans for the legit community" really? it's been 2 years and there's plenty of dupers, botters, hackers, and spam bots on diablo 2 and not 1 ban these past two years, they don't care, they never did care

so does anyone else think that now if you want any good item you have no option but to use real cash? cause why trade it? i like the system but i can see it turning into a 90% cash trading system with very little traded via gold...especially if you want anything worth while...any thoughts?

It's going to be harder for an casual and/or noob players to get the high end gear without using RL money (everything else constant). In case of low drop rates, this might be an extreme problem. Blizz might compensate that with relatively high drop rates.
Prices will stay somewhat constant in time, instead of drop as expected.
The game focus must be changed or the game is ruined. I mean, in past Diablo games the main objective of the majority of SC players was to acumulate the best gear possible. They can't keep this focus anymore - noone will invest hours of play in something that can be done with an fat wallet. I believe thats what this banner feature is about. It's the only thing that can't be traded in the AH and cleary shows your acomplishments as an player.
Only cheaper items will be traded in gold. How cheap the item must be for traders use the gold AH will depend on the fees.
The reflect of class/build unbalance in the prices of gear might creat high variance in the players income. If this unbalance reach D2-like scales, playing D3 might be a lotery.
Imo those points doesn't make D3 an bad game. It just makes D3 radically different from D2.
I don't really understand the controversy. Players who bought items in D2 will still buy items in D3. Players who never even thought about buying items in D2 still won't buy items in D3. I feel people with 'strong' feelings either way are missing the point:
Choice.
We control this market. No one's using the gold AH? Sounds like a great time to post an item on the gold AH; no prices to compare. Don't want to spend real money? Well that situation has been explained over and over, you won't have to. Don't want to buy items? Don't. Want to buy items? Help yourself.
All these theories and guess-works... People raging quitting... common people. It's an auction house. It makes sense from both a game-play (gold) and a business (real money) perspective.
Gold = better trading in game.
Real money = no loss on transactions of Blizzard's intellectual property.
Don't get me started on trying to make a "corporation" of sorts. Do these people realize the dynamics of this game? Developers wanting more end game content probably means more end game content over time. It would be like paying for tier 5 gear then tier 6 comes out. Waste of money. Sure, you may trick some people, people are stupid, but you won't earn a living.
People getting mad at Blizzard for doing this? Again, when your intellectual property is being dispersed by someone else for money, because you didn't think ahead from your previous experiences, then come tell Blizzard they are all money grubbers.
For anyone to say Blizzard is wrong or stupid or whatever for incorporating both AH's, they clearly don't understand something.
Realistically, items are all worthless (real money wise) while leveling. Only end game content has any shot at someone paying real money for it (again, I know, there do exist idiots). But guess what? That level 35 Hammer of Doom looks pretty tasty for 2000g. So BAM! That blows your whole "no one will use gold AH" theory out the window.
Personally, I can't stand transactions (real money) within games, and will probably stay away from the AH's for the majority of the time I play. Either I or one of my bud's is going to be one of the 5 classes, so I have no need to AH away anything. Not to mention gold and components are needed for the best gear. Why would I sell away the best gear in small doses?
But the point is, it's there if I choose to use it!
TL;DR - Don't try to tell the future. Don't rage. Stop calling Blizzard names. Think about it. The dual AH system makes sense. Use it if you want. Stay away from it if you don't. Either way, Blizzard will make some money off people wanting to buy virtual items, and thus (hopefully) more/better content in the future.
My 2 cents. Hopefully I'll help calm some people down
Wow, great explanation. Thanks for whipping it up so quickly; there were some pros I didn't really consider before. Unfortunately, I'd still prefer an AH limited to gold exclusively.
