We all know that once the LOD expansion came out, Diablo himself was kind of obsolete. The game turned into never-ending, monotonous Baal runs. Is Blizzard going to do something to keep this game "Diablo?"
I feel like the end boss in Diablo III needs to be the Lord of Terror himself, not his weird tripod-ish brother. And if Diablo is going to be the end-all be-all of D3, does that mean that we won't fight Diablo himself until the last expansion has come out. I would just hate for Diablo be the final boss in Diablo 3 and then have two expansions come out that have an extended story where you can gloss over the big red dude as just one more monster to kill before you get to the real end of the game.
Thoughts?

Diablo was the focus of the game in both D1 and D2. In D2 he was the final boss, and in D2 we followed Marius and Diablo as they traveled east, and then we killed him again as the final boss.
What I mean is, in D2, we follow Marius and Diablo as they travel east. In D2 LoD, we ignore hell, and move on to Arreat. Diablo is just a stepping stone to get to the end of the game. I feel like Diablo should be the end of the game. Not another prime, or lesser evil.

That is why I think the first expansion will turn the tables and have us fight the heavens. That way it will be different enough from the rest to make it seem like we are not passing by Diablo and fighting someone else.

D3: Endboss is Diablo
D3 Expansion: Tyrael + Diablo is endbosses together. Tyrael being the true source of Diablos powers.
I do not believe there will be more then just 1 expansion, due to the fact its just TO MUCH FOR MY HEAD to think about. I just want the D3.. Expansion is bonus.
I'm positive Diablo himself will be in Diablo 3, in cameo appearances. As a boss I don't know, but I'm not too worried, if Diablo as a boss is added in an expansion then that will be alright, as with awesome gameplay (awesome as is the Diablo series) I'd also rather have the story/universe expanded upon.
Sure the gameplay and story is the main stuff we love about the Diablo series, but we need a great evil to defeat. Diablo seems like the "Ultimate Evil" but maybe it's just because of the mystery around him in D1, telling stories to freighten you and the animated cinematics from D2.
I feel like Im brainwashed, I need to see a big ass diablo with awesome powers. Tyrael on the other hand, I hope he is good and not evil.
We cant forget that this Diablo game will be a story around Tyrael, is he a prisoner? Is he the reason that Diablo are risen once again? Heck! Anything is possible.
Having Diablo visible first in an late expansion seems odd, but maybe its just me. Having him as an endboss in both D1 and D2, it only seem natural to have him as an eldboss in D3.
The expansion: High Heavens sound cool, I liked that idea! Going around and way from the Sanctuary to defeat "evil"-good angels.
Mankind would be victorious, and angels and demons would bow before her!
I don't think they should make Diablo the end boss, in my opinion, he died when the soulstone was destroyed, both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells are subject to mortality, and don't forget, according to the lore it was the Nephalem, the first inhabitants of Sanctuary that were the most powerful race to ever live, so there's plenty of other interesting and lorewise appropriate challenges to offer
Especially now with the worldstone destroyed, who knows, we might see the return of the Nephalem. Inarius and Lilith could make an appearence aswell.

Maybe not Diablo, but instead a descendant, like a son or something would be new and refreshing than killing Diablo over and over again. Like Mephisto had Lucion and Lilith, why not Diablo?
I don't think Tyrael will be a villain. I mean, he wouldn't be a very tough one. He couldn't even land one friggen hit on Diablo when he was weakened in Dark Wanderer form in Tal Rasha's tomb.
By my way of figuring, and as someone else alluded to in referencing the Nephalem, there are bigger and badder things than the three "prime evils." If we take a nod from Tolkien, we have Sauron, who was actually just a disciple of Morgoth.. Morgoth was one of the Valaar, who themselves were creations of the Ainur, who themselves were creations of Eru Iluvatar (aka god).
The reason I draw this parallel is to point out that Diablo represents a similar world.. it's basically like peeling an onion.. the further into the onion you get, you find more power, distributed among fewer beings. I haven't personally seen any evidence to suggest all evil was created by the 3 primes.
So, the worldstone was destroyed. Its purpose was to hide sanctuary from the bitching between heaven and hell. Now one subtle but important fact to keep in mind is this: humans have the potential to be more powerful than both angels and demons, since they are the "offspring" of both.
If I were an angel or demon, and the cloak just got pulled off a world full of my potential betters, you bet your ass I'm gonna be all up in that lookin for a piece.
As they say, the flounders attract the sharks.. The angels and demons are gonna go nuts trying to wrestle for sanctuary, the more senior evils and goods (?) will intervene, peeling the onion back until, potentially, we on sanctuary could witness the arrival of the very top of the top shelf in the powerful beings department.
That's what I'm hoping for. I wanna see bosses that make the three primes look like little squeely bitches. And kill them.

The best answer really is not to repeat baal runs. We'll have to see what they have in mind for endgame, but at least it's apparent they are putting some actual thought into it this time around.
I don't think they should make Diablo the end boss, in my opinion, he died when the soulstone was destroyed,
Did he? Or did he just go to "The Abyss"?
While being in Abyss, he is not in Sanctuary, not in Hell and not in High Heavens.
I don't know much of "Tha Abyss" only that the souls trapped there is doomed forever, or so It seemed 20 years later. It must have to do with Tyrael or the other angels with high power, maybe they where angry and had Diablo released once again for a secret teamwork to destroy the Sanctuary, Mankind is their greatest threat, thus having Tyrael struggling for nor heaven or hell anymore.
Also, Heaven and Hell have "wrestled" for Sanctuary for thousands of years. It is not like they just discovered it.
Semantics, good point. What I mean is, since the worldstone is gone, it's open season on sanctuary now.. presumably demons can take full form and strength there now.

Baal runs, on the other hand, that needs some work. The game should have more places to farm.
Imperius in D3 exp 1.
Diablo at the final expansion.
