Tested it with Firefox 4 release version and I can't seem to replicate your scenario.
1. If you have any add-o: deactivate them, refresh your cache, reload the page.
2. If you have any options ticked in your settings that prevent Javascript from running, untick them. Javascript must be allowed to work.
3. When you type smiter into the search box, and then wait about a second before doing anything else, does the drop-down box appear that says "searching"?
4. Is the pop-up box appearing when you load the home search page (it should be at the bottom unless you disabled it)?
5. Do you ever experience annoying amounts of latency with your internet connection ('lag')?

all i do is update firefox when it tells me to and add adblock. searching "smiter" yields no results - all it does is take me back to the homepage.

If the pop-up box is not appearing for you at all, then you very likely have something blocking javascript to some extent, apples. Maybe you set ad blocker to block things on the page, or have some safety feature blocking features on the page.
Try again now. Does the search button work for you?
I adjusted the response time from 300 milliseconds to 10 milliseconds. Has anything changed?
Would you be willing to post a few screenshots?
1. Before you click on the search box.
2. After you have typed (but not clicked search) a word or part of a word in the search box.
3. Anything else you think looks odd.
Have you tried other browsers?

@Shatterer:
1) Browser/Browser version.
2) Do you have any add-ons or extensions enabled?
--> Please disable them and reload the page to see if anything has changed.
3) Do you ever experience large amounts of latency with your internet connection?
4) Are you running off a PC/notebook/netbook or a handheld device?
5) Does the pop-up show on the bottom of the screen (if you haven't already clicked don't show again on it)?
6) Does the Search button work for you (can you click it)?
7) Would you be willing to take several screenshots so I can address the problems you're experiencing?
--> Before you click on the search box.
--> After you have typed (but not clicked search) a word or part of a word in the search box.

8) Have you tried other browsers or is the problem uniform on all of your browsers (if you have a windows system, you will always have at least IE installed- the latest automatic update included an upgrade to IE9).
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

the little red box comes up with smiter written in it. i click it, it goes on the bar with a little red 'x' next to it. hit search and it just refreshes basically. but as frozen said, you 'smiter' build doesnt exist when u search smiter; works on smite or paladin tho.

So in short Mags, everything that you coded actually works perfectly it seems. It's just that the keyword smiter isn't actually present as a keyword on the actual smiter build.

lol yup, pretty big fundamental error tho, since the build is most commonly termed 'smiter.'
also, some guides while really interesting in presentation, lack the sort of meta-game explanations. for this example, we'll take the (uber) smiter guide:
Amulet
Mara's Kaleidoscope or Highlord's Wrath
now, why maras vs. highlords? of course anyone who has played 2-3 months will know the difference, but its not elucidated in the guide itself, which mostly newbies would use. However, to point out, highlords %ds does not effect smite damage. thus the only useful mods that ammy would provide would be light res and the +1 skill, whereas for an uber build, maras provides all res and +2 skills. However, the guide is not solely based on uber, so highlords is a possibility if and only if the character was a hybrid smite/melee - zeal, charge, etc.
not to pick on who ever wrote it, or the site, as a self described compendium i did not expect to find large 24 page guides, but i did expect a little more than, hey use maras or hl, without a proper explanation as to why (so what if you cannot find either ammy? why are those ammys top choices? if you understand those basics you can figure out the mechanics and find alternates; the teach a man to fish thing...)
graphically though, its much better than other sites kutgw!

How does that make any sense?
I mean, what exactly do you want Mags to do about it?

lol i dont think he can do anything about it, maybe put up a comments and criticisms section. maybe have a reviewer, its based off wiki isnt it? i wouldnt know since i dont deal with web site design, but i do read guides; fancy graphics and cool presentation can only do so much to cover up lack-luster guides.

Now, that is a relief. I spent hours trying to figure out how the fuck it wouldn't work. It was just a logical error. There used to be a guide that used that keyword, but I had to delete it for some reason and I forget why.

Hence why you can report guides if you think their information is insufficient Every guide is not going to be perfect; the idea is that it will contain better ones overall.

I can very easily add commenting, but the problem is that the guide author is not necessarily going to check firebolt for comments. It would be most effective to message the creator somehow on the site that the link goes to. Wiki pages all have discussion tabs on the top for our wiki. I don't know about other wiki's or websites. A lot of them are from forums.
I'm going to add a rating system, so that's something similar. But that isn't going to come until I iron out this situation so it doesn't happen again.
@Kris: Yes, that's doable. How many tags do you think guides should be limited to?
(Also: should patch version be a required separate field for every guide? I've been thinking this may be something important I overlooked. Currently, you can tick patch versions, but it's not required...)
Thanks for sticking with me here, apples. I really appreciate your feedback.
Patch version... It seems reasonable enough to require, but it's only really important if it's between 1.09 or 1.10. That's when the synergy and super rune words start to pop up, and I think most guides out there right now are probably written for 1.10+ anyway.

True.
Edit~
Erp, almost forgot- I fixed that data association error, apples.
Also, perhaps add a button to add the block percentage on some common shields?
