I didn't know if I should post this in the ForceStrstegy section or here but w.e.
Anyways, I was watching the FC DiabloCast ep6 about the PvP and one of the things they were talking about were rewards in PvP battles. Since Blizzard isn't going to be giving any items or anything else as a reward in PvP battles from what was said. It would be cool if each team in the PvP battle, before they started set up some type of wager. Where each team would beat an item or two or more against eachother and who ever wins the battle gets the other teams wager.
So basically a trading type window would show before the battle started and each team would wager whatever items they wanted. Then both teams would agreed on the wager of the battle. After the winners are declared the winning team would get the wagered items on a team member or like in a pre-set chest that only the winning team can open. And obviously if neither team wanted to wager anything that would be an option as well.
This would be a pretty cool mechanic to add into the PvP aspect of the game. It solves the problem of Blizzard not giving anything away. And it adds more of an allure to the PvP matchs.
Sorry if this has been talked about before. This is my first post and I wanted to make sure I got it written down before I forgot what I was going to say. ForceStrategy's youtube channel brought me here and I'm glad. I've been playing Blizzard games since I was like 10. That's probably why I never did good in school...
I like the idea but it'll only make people flame if other team don't wanna wager.
I don't think it would. I don't know exactly how the PvP setup is going to be but if they have rooms where people would meet first then it could work that way. Or they could have one section where people who want to PvP and not wager anything would be in one section and the people who did want to wager would be in another section.
I don't play WoW so I don't know how the PvP is setup over there. But if D3 is going to have the same interface type deal like in D2 where you make your own games and there are channels then I don't see how they couldn't do a channel for people who wanted to beat and people who didn't.
They already said that blizzard most likely wouldn't be giving any items away in PvP. That's why I thought of this wager system. For the people who want items after winning a fight. Plus it's bragging rights as well, kind of like getting to lvl 99 in D2.

An easy solution to this would be placing filters. An example would be that the item must be of at least x internal item level, and contain y for mods. That's the only way you could get it to work without visibly sharing what you're waging.
An easy way to fix this for people who dont like this or dont have anything to wager is to just make it choose "Wager PvP" when you go arena, so you can choose if you wanna do wager matches or not.
Finally someone smart.
Some would play matches with wager, some would not.
Thats it. Perfect world. Be happy.
Wagers aren't a new idea either but its still a good one. I don't think PvP players should get anything otherwise. Random chests or random drops and the like. Or experience. A mode to make the other guy drop all his stuff on death though would be even better. (or just a % of his items)
What's wrong with the ears we got from dueling in D1 and D2? They would actually mean more now in terms of bragging rights, because you couldn't just go around collecting level 85 ears as a level 10 character anymore. I think that anything you gain from PvP should only benefit PvP - for instance, maybe if you get a certain amount of wins, you gain access to a new dueling arena (e.g., maybe you get a new map after 10 wins, then 20, then 40, then 80 etc.).

Why? Things you do in PvE greatly beneficts you on PvP. Whats the problem of became a better farmer on pve cause u own a wager match ?

I don't mean getting items from another character - a wager system would be cool. What I am saying is that items that just manifest from playing PvP, like the treasure chest example. What's to stop me from signing on with another computer on another account or getting a friend to sign on his character and go AFK while I just kill him over and over? Basically, I think this is a system that could be easily abused. If anything just bring back the rule that if you get killed in PvP, whoever kills you gets X% of your gold.
Gold wagering seems decent enough. Add that you can only gain as much as you bet yourself and it would be fine I think.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking, too.
So how about this - for 1v1, you just match each other, and the wager for the match is whoever puts up the least amount of gold. So let's say I put up all of my gold, 5000g, and my opponent puts up 7000g. The wager for the match in this case is 5000g, and whoever wins gets 5000g out of the other player's bank. Now let's say you have a 3v3 match, and I wager 4,000g, and both my partners wager 3,000g, so the wager is 10,000g for my team. Now let's say the other team bids 7000, 2000, and 1000 for the 10,000. Whichever team wins gets the 10,000g from the other team divided up according to how much they wagered in the beginning, and the other team loses 10,000g according to how much they wagered.
I like the gold idea. I never thought about gold and how much of a difference it will play in D3. All I remember is D2 and gold was basically worthless at a certain point.
I like what Ninnou said on how it should be. Before the battle there is a "wager" or "no wager" bottom and they pick which ever one they wanted. The only problem with that is how about if one team wants it and the other doesn't? Would the default always be a "no wager" battle?
Then there's the items that are going to be wagered. Blizzard is going to be balancing the lvl's in the PvP so everyone is around the same lvl. They could do the same thing with the items so that the wager window wouldn't let you wager anything lower in lvl than what everyone in the battle so. So say everyone in the PvP is lvl60, the wagering window wouldn't let you put anything in there unless it was of a high class item.
I don't see how you expect this. From Blizzard's PoV the point of no item PvP rewards isn't to control the economy or something. It's to completely stop PvP progression, and force you to PvE for your stat upgrades. Letting better players get rich off of worse ones is still offering them progression. You might argue that it's dumb, but then you'd be taking it head on at least. Trying to sidestep like this won't get anywhere.
I said it in the last post where the wager window would be the balancing factor for what items would be wagered. The PvP is going to be balacend. Their not going to have a fight with a group of lvl 60's vs 30's. And obviously they aren't going to have the same class of items either with such a lvl gap. So when the PvP is set up they are going to be of like lvls and most likely they will have the same class of items.
I could definitely see this happening in the future. It probably wont happen right now because the game is nearing completion. And there would be a crap load of testing needed for something like this to make it a balanced mechanic. But after testing and it's polished up they could put it in an expansion.

If that is the case then I guess it wouldn't matter. I'm just curious, what makes you think that Blizzard is trying to stop PvP progression entirely? I guess I could understand Blizzard wanting to keep PvE and PvP as separate as possible like that. However, if that's the case I don't see what would be wrong with rewards in PvP that have nothing to do with PvE, like access to new PvP arenas.
what would be wrong with rewards in PvP that have nothing to do with PvE, like access to new PvP arenas.
Unlocking new arenas is lame, and gay, and there is nothing wrong with wagering, man whats wrong with you people?
are you going to make me explain these things? do I have to explain everything ffs?

I suggest you read FoxBatD2's post and then read mine again. And "gay?" Really?
The wagering will also solve the problem for the people who are mostly thinking about focusing on PvP and not PvE. They will probably have one character to PvE and get all the items they need for PvP. Then they will mainly focus on the PvP aspect of the game. So if they really are only PvPing they wont be getting to may new items if they PvE once in a while.
With the wagering, they can win items off other players that they wouldn't have got because they aren't PvEing for items. I would think that PvPer's would like this a lot because of that. I'm suprised there hasn't been any of those hardcore PvPer's here with their opinions.

Well then they wouldn't agree on the wager and either the battle would happen without it or the battle wouldn't happen at all.
Obviously one team isn't going to wager random junk they found and the other team is going to wager legendary items and agree one the battle.
