Hey there. I've lurked diablofans.com for years.. even before diablo 3 was announced

I'm in my 5th year at a university and a paper I have due tomorrow in health psychology requires a survey completed by a random population:

I have an assumption where you are going with your topic, but I'd like to note that I drink caffeinated beverages for more than the physical/chemical "dependency". In my culture there is a large social interaction tied to having coffee with friends or co-workers.

I filled it out, but this isn't a random sample. It's probably going to be biased toward males aged 20-30 w/ lower-than-average activity levels, which are all factors that can impact the responses to the types of questions you ask.

If you posted this at different forums/websites/etc then that will help (though not so much if they are all gaming sites)

Thank you so much everyone, just checked and have 120 responses when you combine mmo champ and diablofans - as I forgot to add a nickname part to the survey I guess ill just randomly select someone that replies to this thread or the mmochamp one and see if you'd like a hyjal wisp to sell in wow as a thank you gift. I'm a 31 year old firefighter who drinks 40+ ounces of coffee a day. I also play in mens lacrosse leagues and snowboard as my forum handle suggests. You'd be surprised who plays video games lol.

I'm not surprised. "Biased toward" only means he's going to get more males, more 20-30, more inactive, than a truly random sample of humans, if his sample is from an MMO forum. Please don't think I was accusing everyone who plays D3 of being above-average inactive.

Done filling out the form - non WoW player, D3 though.

Done and done. I thought it was interesting that you didn't ask how frequently or the quantity of consumption.

First off, going to a diablo website to get a random sample does not work. The population is clearly scewed towards a specific set of people. Even if you get ladies, elder men and young active guys to answer and decide to filter out some of the other answers that is a shady thing to do aswell.

Secondly, beginning a paper the day before you are handing it in with having to have 50 random people to answer... You've been studying for 5 years at a university now... cmon...

Then there's the trolls and the incentive to participate.

What would be cool is that if you wrote how you sampled your population, which makes it a more interesting study to me. Either way a random sample of 50 people seems super low no matter how you sample.

Finally, I just hope that this kind of "research" does not contribute to any kind of newspaper headline.

Hahaha you just reminded me of my ecology teacher. But i'm sure this is just some extra work.
