<rant> OK... I skimmed through most of this thread, and all I see are positive comments...wtf!?!? I heard about this game and thought "jesus fucking tap dancing monkey christ! who in their right mind would play such a simple, horrible looking game? whats the fucking point?!?!" And, sorry, I had to use a lot of french in that thought to get the point across.... I think we can all safely agree the game looks like balls, but really, is it SO fun that it just doesn't matter? Hell.. I really don't want to have to try it but there are just SO many good things I've heard about this game, I don't understand it.... It's hard for me because I really just can't get past the graphics, and I'm sure some people are the same way. For instance, I've never played Baldurs Gate II and I know its a great game, my brother owns it and one night I was just like "alright, time to play that game, I know it's epic, the music, gameplay, everything top notch.." but i just couldn't get past the graphics. But when you're so used to playing the newest games out there with the best graphics these days, I don't know if I can go back a generation and play older games with bad graphics, although as great as they may be, and enjoy them. Sigh... why can't this game just have some low poly texture, 3d crap like WOW? even less, I wouldn't be that picky... but an 8 bit game... i just dont know. I assume minecraft.com is the site to go if u want to try a demo or something? </rant>
This isn't a personal thing: I'm just asking to know what kind of games you've grown with.
I swear, my children will not touch any modern console crap until they're above 10. SNES, NES and games pre-1994 will be all they see.
I have some friends still, though, my age (20) but they still can't play something "as ugly as Minecraft".
All I have to say is, your loss. Be it because of what games you're used to, or if its just part of your personality, you really should think about changing it. If I could only let myself play "good looking recent games", I would have abandoned gaming by now.
The last console I played was gamecube, and the game, which is still amazing, was smash bros melee. I fully agree with you on the modern console crap tho. I also grew up on those great games (I'm 23) of NES, SNES, mostly mario and such, and for PC it's been nothing but blizzard games and guild wars. Perhaps I was in the wrong state of mind in my previous post. Those "good looking recent games" were referencing GW and and SCII. I think that maybe I was putting a stereotype to minecraft such as free, and simple graphics, and related it to just being a bad game, and kind of went off on my post. My apologies.
And I, as well, would not let my children miss out on the great games I enjoyed as a kid.
You can get InDev and InfDev, the previous version before Alpha came out, but Notch said that once Beta came out, InDev and InfDev are going to no longer be available.
I gotta figure out how I can buy it. My bank hates me, and I cannot find a gift card that will work outside the U.S.A. >.<

Paper Mario was the best game of all time. Sorry, just saying
Blasphemy, the greatest game of all time was Super Mario Bros. 3!
Flowers have to be planted on dirt and in sunlight.
I am also stuck playing the free version because I do not have a paypal account and I'm not sure about using my debit card for an oversees online purchase.

But is it in beta yet? Where is this InDev/InfDev stuff?
I have recently built a pirate ship that is about 100 blocks long 50 blocks wide and 50 blocks high, not including the sail. Now I am working on a pyramid that is 128x128 blocks and 64 blocks high. It will take approximately 28,000 blocks to complete just the exterior. I'm about a fourth othe way done.

Just a big fancy house. I don't know if he could ever implement some kind of ability to make designated blocks moved together, so you could make a moving flying house (example), moving ship, whatever.

No, but I agree, I don't want my kids playing anything newer then SNes as well.
Also, I gotta yell at my bank, they are still declining my card when I try to pay for it... I hate being stuck in InfDev version...
Doesn't seem like you can do anything in it.
My flowers refuse to be planted. They disappear on me.

Just make sure your bank allows purchases of overseas items. -.-;
Nope, still in Alpha as far as I can tell.

"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
I'd love an infinite supply of iron...
Yay.
Yes, I am playing the only version that I was able to play because all others told me "buy game nao".
And it's pretty boring.

But yeah, no such things yet!
Before I move on to other methods...
