I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about a fight, not a marathon.

Obviously armor is a bad idea in a fight, what sort of a fighter would wear armor anyhow? Ridiculous!

Now ancient celts had the right idea, charging in naked waving their privates around in battle.

Just imagine their quickness... can blow your mind.

You know what you do when you aim with a bo staff to someones legs? You lower your defenses (I fight with bo staves alot).

Now... shall we discuss about how big a barbarians axe is?

And when the Barbarian raises his axe for a killing blow, he's vulnerable to a gut or side shot.

If he's wearing armour, he's only that much slower. :D

Tangled up in a staff? Dude... it's not a lasso.

Trust me, when you face a guy with an axe and a shield and all you've got is a staff, you're in trouble.

That way the first strike of the staff is blocked and then you face an opponent in a close range (the axe is a closer range weapon) and a staff is useless at close range.

    Really, it is.

Trust me, in skilled hands, a bo staff is very much like a lasso. You can tie up somebody's legs with a bo.

It wouldn't keep them down, no entanglements can because their only meant to delay to allow either escape or another move while the opponent is distracted.

Although I have a 77th level Amazon and she's only slowing going through act I of Hell level, that's the way it should be. The first run through the game should be relatively easy, so everybody can get a chance to experience the game.

However, there should be a level where it's very difficult at the best of times.

The staff is both an offensive and defensive weapon.

You can not only hit things, but use it to block weapon hits, as well as trip up your opponent.

A barbarian who's all tangled up in a staff ain't going to be much good with most of his weapons.

Good points good points, except we're talking "Diablo" here, not freaking "Enter the Dragon". If i hear "monk", and i think "Diablo", then i think about a monk, as in a christian one or something similar, and they aren't skilled in martial arts as far as i know.

The pen is mightier than the sword.

If a monk, or similar character doesn't make it to D3, it's probably not due to Blizzard having not tried, but it didn't work, whether it be due to a lack of a quality tree or otherwise.

I still like the monk idea. 3 trees I'd like would be martial arts, ch'i, and.... erm.... origami?

Quit making fun of the monk.

The third tree would be breathing exercises.l

    Yeah !

please - point me to even a one Monk in the history, that using killing force , and do PvP / PK for fun !

    Please !

I will, if you can show me when a demon from Hell has ever walked the face of the earth.:P

It's a game and it isn't meant to be a perfect replication of history. A monk is a useful representation of an unarmed fighter.

I wouldn't buy the game if it was multiplayer.

I have so little spare time in my life that if I could only play it on the net, I just simply wouldn't make the time to play it ever.

I have about 2 hours a month to play games and, even free, it wouldn't be worth my time to play on battlenet.

If we had to have somebody back, it would have to be Na-Krul. That guy didn't get his fair due, because if you could beat the Defiler, than all Na-Krul needed, by comparison, was a simple backhand shot to the head.

I have no idea if the game is any good or anything because it doesn't yet exist, though I have the utmost confidence that the developers and programmers are doing their best to create a great game game.

But I can say with the utmost confidence because it's not out yet, that it doesn't suck.

    no

he must have some sort of hear or armor too wear, its just stupid too have all the classes use armor and weapons and 1 class too not need it, making him better then the rest as he would save more money etv

I agree a martial arts class could work and with the new engine you could have better physics (like actually doing a roundhouse kick sends a monster flying into other enemies etc, breaking bones etc)

    but i doubt it

monk class is too eastern orientated, i have never herd of medieval western monks breaking bricks or even doing martial arts....

Who cares about money? It's not as though you can take the gold and go down to the local 7-11 and spend it.

The whole object is to beat Diablo and whoever else might be the final boss, not to accumulate virtual gold. At least that's my goal.

There are ways to compensate so the monk doesn't get too powerful in relation to other characters. The fact that he's armorless makes him more of a challenge compared with other characters, he'd have to be played smarter to survive in some cases.

Considering that he'd be more dependent on players making good choices in regards to skills, then lucking out and finding uncommon or rare pieces of armour, it can actually be more of a challenge this way.

Not sooo true... Eastern monks were as eager about acquiring knowledge just as much, or even more, than the western monks.

What the western monks were more eager to acquire than the eastern ones was money and power, and they used intimidation and brute force to do so (the church used to be more wealthy than the crown in several kingdoms of old).

About the "no need to learn physical defense skills" of the western monks... well.. that's not true. For years the church have been robbed, ravaged and had its people killed by the viking invadors, much like the Eastern ones were the target of various raiding bandits and pirates.

In fact, monasteries were some of the favourites targets for the vikings. They were filled with riches, and were occupied by either men who could not defend themselves or women. Good for the vikings either way.

The only different is that the monks of the east decided they'll strike back, and the western ones turned the other cheek and then got stabbed in it.

Also... since we're speaking of monks. Martial arts monks are NOT unarmed fighters. They may not use armor - but they are trained to fight with an awesome variety of weapons, starting from simple bo (staff) and ending with swords, polearms, knives, spears and several more exotic weapons not usually seen in the diablo universe (three parted staff for example).

I know that Eastern monks really know how to use swords, polearms, etc. However, to put that into the game only makes them a variation of a fighter character. Then it becomes, "Why bother." Give the weapons to a fighter character.

However, many of us would like to have an un-armed, un-armoured character, who through skills and toughness goes through the game and succeeds. That's one of the characters I'd like. It'd be slower progress, because he's weapon restricted, but he also wouldn't be dependent on gold to get by, other then for healing potions and mana potions, so that's a plus.

But most people, when you ask them for an example of an unarmed character, the monk is the name that is usually given, so it's a useful representation. Blame Dragonball and other anime if you want, but that's the reality.

That is not the problem, it will allmost certainly be allowed in D3. The problem is when you have a higher level there to kill everything for you, resulting in a experience boost. Remember diablo and baalruns in D2? How many did the actual killing and how many just leeched the exp?

That doesn't bother me. If people want to be lazy and not get the full experience of the game, let them. It's really their loss. Most of those people probably get bored and leave sooner anyway, which means that those who are committed and play the game stick around, which is how it should be.

I'm not one to leech xp and I've always played by myself, because I don't have time to multiplayer.

Western Monks were more concerned about acquiring knowledge moreso than Eastern Monks.

Also, Westen monks were representatives of the powers that be at the time, so there was no need to learn physical defense skills, whereas the Easten monks were basically enemies of the powers that be in their territories.

I've never played Diablo to gain virtual gold. I've always managed to acquire what I need in time and in the wilderness, so that's not my focus.

The character class doesn't have to be calledm "Monk" as long as the character type is there. I'd prefer the class to have no weapons or armour. Let the special effects be shown through a well-placed kick or hit.
