Assuming Blizzard's release strategy for the game in terms of digital downloads stays consistent with that in the past, does anyone have insight into the following:
Which method do I use to start playing as soon as possible (AKA 12:01 am on release date)?
I've heard that with digital downloads, you can actually download and install the game ahead of the release date, you just can't play it (since the servers aren't up). Is this true?
At what day/time does the digital download become available?
Well the only time they've done the digital release for something was for Cataclysm, which is obviously easier to do than a full game because it just activates content thats already on the WoW servers. With a full game like D3, if they allowed you to download it beforehand, things could get revealed by accident, and its not run only on servers, so that could be hard to pull off. And if you could only download it once it was 12:00, then it would probably end up taking longer than going to a midnight release, depending on how close the nearest release is.
But if they announce a way for you to download it beforehand and its activated at 12:00 on the release date, then obviously that would be the fastest way. Some people like the box though.
The Almighty Box is what you need, The collectors edition that will cost you 100 dollars plated in gold comes with a plush horadric cube and a replica SoJ... Oh the things I could dream up for a collectors edition. now on point, ehem, if you want the quickest way it would be to Download and install if you have a blazing fast internet, because if your internet is slow enough you could actually lose time downloading the game instead of being at the store then quickly putting in your disc. If you're installing on a laptop the quickest way to do it would be be first on line walk into store buy the box edition and install it right there in your car as you're heading home. Thats of course if they don't do the download thing.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Getting the game delivered by Diablo in person is the fastest way. That is the Ultimate Collector's Edition it will only cost your soul.
I really do not see a reason to wait a little bit longer. I am just going to buy the game at a store. I hate digital downloads especially since my internet is through my cell phone(luckily I have unlimited data and still pay less than most people pay for internet that is capped but they have faster speed).

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
Digital download is nice, but I don't think I'll do it again. It's how I got Starcraft 2 but I think I'd rather own a physical copy of D3, register it, then play without the disk.
I don't think I'll be able to pass up downloading it beforehand and then playing it immediately at midnight, but if thats not an option I'm going to a midnight release.
SC2 took me about five hours to download. Would've been faster just to go to the store. Though at those midnight release parties you gotta stand in line well beforehand to get your copy. I'll just be patient and get it the next day. What's another day after so many years?
Well I went to an SC2 midnight release and got my game at about 1235 or so after waiting in a line that went throughout the store. If you get there a bit before midnight usually its not that bad. That was the only midnight release I've gone to though.
The chat gems in each corner was a nice touch though.
Many nice touches - the rating, the internet connectivity warning (though both could just be ripped from the SC2 box) the right font for the wow pet, the way the claw goes over the borders - anyone know where the illustration is from?

I went to the midnight release too, i think i was there 2 hrs before, and there was still a descent lineup. Although i was one of the first 200 and got a free Razer mouse and i think it took me an hour to get through
I) I have heard things happening like if you pre order from the internet receiving the game a day or 2 early
a) Risk getting the game late
If you were to get the game early could you install it?
I) Could you play it?
II) Would you get banned?
II) When you say 12:01 do you mean eastern time or in your time zone?
a) can you fake your time zone?
III) Hope it is a DL first then it unlocks somehow at 12:01, so we dont have to wait to dl then install it
a) guessing this would only be offered through blizzard.com or battle.net

Speaking of the box, someone just posted a really nice fake that looks new to me - almost good enough that I wonder if it is a leak:

Indeed. Its the only way to avoid you getting mad when you are on a bus going home or installing the game.
My shelf demands a new box.
