So if they get more profit, they'll have more money to through at resources to make more and better Blizzard games! What is the problem here? They aren't forcing your hand to pay for things, it's all up to you.
They made a decision to fill their pockets, a decision which will have an inevitable negative impact. This proves to me that they don't care about their players, and that is all I need to hate it.
Yes, in YOUR mind you think that they just fill their pockets which is founded upon no factual information or evidence. Which proves to me that your hatred is founded upon thin air which makes me think that you just want to blindly hate Blizzard on a game that you haven't even played yet. So logical!

Hah, yes, its completely illogical isn't it? Why, you don't have any proof yourself either. Guess what, its impossible to prove such things from our position. You're asking me to prove their intention.
Of course, not having that, what a perfect opportunity to try and shut me down for it.
Its logical to assume that a company with Activision in its name has added the money feature to *cough* make money, and not really for all the excuses they give us.
I'm not proving it, but you're not proving me the opposite either.

Yes, but I am not blindly hating an entity based on speculation. You are.
I am wondering at what phase in it's development did Diablo 3 turn into another WoW engine? It seemed to happen so gradually and subtly that no one noticed it... Blizzard should have just called this Diablo Online from the beginning or World of Diablo...
No offline mode at all anymore?
Modding now bannable, prohibited and against Terms of Service?
A real cash auction house?
At what point? Didn't Blizz North want to make D3 into an MMO from the get go? I gotta say from day 1...
I for one am excited about the auction house and hope to god that they do make Diablo into a MMO. Now I now people who RMT or Bot will be mad that they are going to have strong competition now Blizzard themselves. Diablo would be a great MMO if done right. You would need to increase the servers for sure. Would be great if you could have large armies fighting one another over terriroty or what have you. i play EVE and they actually have 1000 vs 1000. Now there are lag with fleets that big but 100 vs 100 is easy no lag. Even bigger is easy. But some people do not want to pay . Thats fine you have D3 I am more than willing to pay for a great game to contitnue and not die for ten plus years. Let the trolling begin.....
And? How is that wrong? I'm hating on them because I -believe- they don't give a shit about their players and what they do proves it for -me-.
Exactly why would I need proof to hate them? I don't need proof that the government is bad to hate it.
You need to break that mentality my friend. You know who else had that mentality? The Nazi's. You have a brain. I implore that you use it to do actual thinking, and not just have blind emotional fits founded on a baseless foundation.

Hah. No... they're not baseless. They're based on what I see, behaviors and patterns, logic. Just because they're not fact doesn't mean they're pure unfounded hate.
Guessing you didn't read the latest announcement that mods of any kind are prohibited, bannable and against the ToS now... They were fine before, just not supported. Developers even said they wouldn't support it, but if we wanted to mod; go right ahead... Since the announcement of the Auction House and removal of Offline Single Player their stance on modding has shifted completely.
Further more this is not evolving; if anything this is de-evolution. Stripping and limiting features, stepping on minority fanbases within your community, alienating people and turning them against one another, offering a strictly controlled server as the only way to play the game legally be it single player or multiplayer... All this for the sole purpose of making an extra buck through their Auction House.
If this is evolution I'd rather go extinct. Maybe TL2 wont be as big, or as epic or as amazing as D3, but it will still be a great game and it's developers actually care about their fan-base and are putting it's community ahead of profit... Plus the community is far friendlier and positive compared to the amount of fighting, negativity and bitterness that is rampant in the Diablo community... Something Blizzard has provoked time and time again.
I read that. Perhaps I didn't mind because I never cared about mods and always played the games as they were released. I'm not affected and I honestly don't care much. But if this direction means a better gaming experience on the servers, I care even less about mods (that weren't really supported before either).
And it's the frustrated people who exclude themselves from the community, mostly because of rage reactions, like there's nothing more important to be angry about but a game (!).
As of TL2... it's developers only want to leech a few customers. Lure them with features that won't necessarily make their game better, but just more... likeable to the people who dislike some decisions Blizzard took.
SC2 has offline... or had, was it removed? Sure you had to go online once a month, but that was very much bearable..
Ehhh, no. You can be playing and then go offline and still play. But the last time I tried playing SC2 without an internet connection it wouldn't let me connect.

Well from what I'm reading, you definitively can, you just have to make sure you logged online in the last 30 days.
Well from what I'm reading, you definitively can, you just have to make sure you logged online in the last 30 days.
Guess I'd have to try it then. I still don't like it though. I think if your product key is valid you should be able to play the game offline indefinitely if you want. They're just trying to make everything the way Steam does where you log in to some service and have a games library and you select the game from there. Makes sense in some ways, but the online thing bugs me. Not that Steam does that though.
I'm not affected and I honestly don't care much. But if this direction means a better gaming experience on the servers, I care even less about mods (that weren't really supported before either).
And that is the problem with the Diablo community "I am not affected by it so I don't care; if other people in the community get screwed over by it, who cares?" The apathy of the community never ceases to sadden me. In addition how does removing an offline mode, forcing you to play online, on battle.net even for single player and prohibit modding entirly make for a "better gaming experience" on the servers. This was not done to make for a better gaming experience; it was done as a misguided way to combat piracy and expose more players to the 'glory' of the auction house thus potentially increasing revenue to Blizzard.
Screw the modders.
Screw offline players.
Screw LAN players.
Screw people who want to have fun with the game in their own specific niche.
Screw people who want choices and options.
But hey why I am telling you this? You don't care as it doesn't affect you... As for Torchlight 2, you seem to forget the developers are the original creators of Diablo and they have shown that they care about their fanbase and community... they have always taken an active role in the community; they listen and work hard to offer a better experience; they even support player run servers. Not to mention the community as a whole is much more positive and enthusiastic compared to Diablo where "You're idea sucks, you suck, Blizzard sucks, I don't care" Is a common response to half the debates being discussed.
I am wondering at what phase in it's development did Diablo 3 turn into another WoW engine? It seemed to happen so gradually and subtly that no one noticed it... Blizzard should have just called this Diablo Online from the beginning or World of Diablo...

Torchlight 2 keeps looking better and better. My support and respect for Blizzard seems to diminish with every announcement. Arrogance and complacency while stepping on and alienating minority fan-bases within your community never has a good end result... Just look at where Square-Enix is today; how the mighty have fallen.
Considering all the problems there were with Diablo 2 I'm not surprised at all, id rather have that then all the dupes and hacks there were with D2 (yes i know it might happen anyways).
People are overreacting in my opinion on most stuff and i don't see how you can compare this to an MMO when there are only 4 players per game.
ALSO, D3 isn't a MMORPG, and if you think it is, you clearly don't understand the definition thereof
The line between what isn't and is an MMORPG is getting blurrier. No offline mode, one official server to rule them all, mods being illegal... That's mmo enough as is... Furthermore, adapting and evolving. That's a load of BS. This has nothing to do with games "evolving" This has to do with greedy companies looking for a way to make extra money.
Offline mode was removed and mods were made prohibited for the sole reason because it will interfere with the Auction House and reduce revenue. This is about money, not some evolving process where all games have to be online and strictly controlled under the guise of trying to combat piracy and preventing people from being confused by too many options.
You My good sir have no idea what you are talking about... Do you know what MMO stands for? I'll be nice and tell you since we are so negative. It stands for Massively Multiplayer Online. Which guess what Diablo doesn't have that sorry for bursting your bubble there. And you are also a bit slow on the piracy portion of games, It's seriously becoming like movies, Did you read about Gears 3 being Pirated already and it isn't even out. I am glad they impose these features because as an aspiring Game designer I need to be able to make money for what I do and the fact that you jip me out of my money blows some serious Dick. So kudos to all developers looking for ways to keep their income steady. unless you would want me to hike the price to 80$ so the pirateers can pirate and when you buy it for singleplayer use only then you pay shitloads more so i can sustain me and my families lives? Didn't think so. Mods, don't really pose a threat to me as I never really see a use for them I agree throwing them away is an odd idea but i personally have nothing against it. And The Real money AH doesn't have to be used, I will use the gold AH because I don't want to spend shitloads more money on games then i already spend. You people start bitching about everything and it is good to give them feedback, but when the consensus just says its all right, they won't listen to the minority which is what happened with the art direction and is what will happen with this. And to you saying it is evolutionary, Just please go look at D1 and D2 and how they REVOLUTIONIZED THE RPG GENRE. look at how every game after tried to copy diablos style in their own ways. All they are doing this time is Re-Revolutionizing the genre. Name a game where i can go play and have a skill then use an item and completely change the function of the skill. Name a game where they have no skill points but instead an easier more fun customisable way to play with the maximum power, which is what everyone wants. Stop flaming a gaming you've yet to play, just because you heard it will have a feature you aren't fond of. And if that really is the case then why not just not buy the game? That's what I do when i don't like features of games, I don't buy them, the Primary reason i won't be buying Mw3 or Skyrim. They bore me and are not fun.

Any situation where Blizzard stands to make money doesn't inherently correlate that they're making that situation only to make money because they're greedy and don't care about their players. Even if you feel with all of your being that all they want is to make the most money possible, logic dictates that having as many players as possible gives them as much money as possible, so it behooves them to care about their players as much as possible even if only as a byproduct of pure greed. That's the real beauty here; the better a game they make, the more money they make, they only have incentive to make the best player experience possible, so this weird cognitive dissonance that must rise with statements that they don't care about the players has zero justification, I'm sorry. You can think they're screwing up, you're fine to feel that way and that's a good discussion to have right now no matter which side one stands on, but the kind of claim that is to make is simply foolish.
That all said, I'm fine with all of this and none of it speaks to 'WoWism' or MMORPGism--also a silly point for the OP to compare to Torchlight, considering the devs have said since day one all those games are right now are basically really extended demos for the eventual Torchlight MMORPG, heh.
RMT AH = 'We know there will be RMT trading and we know many players want to take part in it, so instead of fighting it in ways we have no way of enforcing and letting scammy third-party sites be the middlemen while they also take money out of our pockets, we're just going to streamline it so you can do it within D3, securely, with Blizzard's blessing, if it's something you're interested in.'
Doing everything the fans are asking you to doesn't necessarily make your game good. Just saying.
Blizzard always took bold to controversial decisions that ended up working very well and were immitated by others after they succeeded.
Wow took almost all it's ideas from other MMO's.
Diablo is not made by Blizzard but Blizzard North/Condor. D3 is the first of the Diablo series made by Blizzard, and we all remember how great the last non-Blizzard North game went, right?
Warcraft 1/2/3 was relatively typical RTS games in comparison to the other RTS's of their times.
The ONLY game Blizzard did that had alot of originality was Starcraft 1 and to a much, much, much lesser extent Starcraft 2.
Blizzard is hoping and praying they do good with Diablo 3.
Well that's bothered me since SC2. Seriously I hate that.
