Many of you may not agree with me, but I can't watch streams anymore. I'm not saying that a lot of these players are fucking terrible (some are), but it's just that, everyone has their own style and way of traversing Diablo content. I for instance, am something of an obsessive completionist: I need to pick up every single thing that drops including gold and trash/gray items. I get a lot of satisfaction even from the incremental income generated from selling random shit.
Once again, this is not really a rant, but we're all waiting for invites so we can play the game our way and not be stuck being frustrated and saying things out loud like, "No ! Leap attack that group FIRST, THEN come back and cleave these mobs !".
I've started playing Diablo 2 again to pass the time when I'm back home. Nothing like running around in the Blood Moor with my Necromancer's skeletons tearing shit up.
Haha ya man I completely agree, or they just ignore some drops or enemies. Say things that are completely misinformed (Force is really bad for this, I was surprised I thought he'd have at least read up on D3, he's also really impatient.) Or husky who uses his normal wand attack as his staple offensive move. (He's a wizard .. so painful)
Don't get wrong husky/force are great I watch their videos pretty regularly, but like you I am will be exploring every corner, killing every enemy, popping every vase and turning over every corpse. To the point where I may have to not play with some friends who I know are more the type to try to get to the end as quickly as possible and skip the random dungeons etc.
Edit: The worst was watching SpinDrJr play a melee demonhunter and literally only use his normal attack .. with a sword and shield. God that was bad.
I like Force's coverage. Yeah, I'm a completionist too, so his style isn't my favorite. But the way he plays does give a good sense of the main gameplay elements. Let's face it.. most players are just gonna barrel through content, missing 50% of the interactive story/environment elements, and feeling fine about it.
Thing is, if he slows down and chugs along, a whole new set of people will jump out of the woodwork and start yelling GOOOOOOO!!! GOGOGOGOOO!!! OMFG WAT ARE YOU DOING GOOOOOGOGOGO!!!! And there is NOTHING in the world more annoying than that. Believe me, I was a WoW warrior main tank for years.

I'm a completionist too and I can't stand not killing anything that moves. But I also realize that doing that would make for a pretty long and boring video. At least for most viewers.
I like day9's videos... too bad he's playing the WD. Force's first run through with the barb was quite awesome. Everything that was streamed before those two just sucked. Sorry.
I don't mind people not picking up all the useless gear...but I know that every single time someone passes up gold that dropped on the ground it makes my left eye twitch very strangely.
I don't mind the streams where people pass up picking up the junk, but when they walk past the gold or scrolls and other items of some use...I just feel like yelling at them, lol
As a matter of fact - I think the DH is getting some bad press because of people who stream some bad play styles with him/her. The DH is going to be a great character to play, imo. I personally am rolling a Wizard first, but the DH is a close second.
The DH is meant to be a great kiter to any battle and people in the streams are playing it like they are the meat shield class of this game. I also see so many streamers, seriously underusing the discipline skills. I can't tell you how many streams I've watched where no one uses the Vault ability. They run into 10 mobs, spam their Hatred abilities until they run out of the resource - get owned and die - then go on the forums and complain that the DH sucks and needs to be revised.
If you want to play the DH - learn to kite. Want to be a meat-shield, be a Barb.
And alas - I'm off to watch more streaming. Its like being addicted to crack, but you can't get to the crack, so you watch a movie about people doing crack. Crazy.
If I were in the beta, I would shut up during combat, letting people hear the sound design and watch closely without having to hear me ramble. Then, after each skirmish, I'd go around looting and exploring. During that down time is when I would provide commentary, either about what just happened, or more generally.
That's just me though. There's no right or wrong way. In taste, there is no argument.

THANK YOU! I can't stand listening to "oh that was gross" or "oh, I'm super-hawt because I got that 15 kill bonus" or "no Mom, I don't want to go to Chucky Cheese's tonight - gawd!"
Streamers - turn off your vent. No one wants to hear your WoW guildmates talk about raiding.
Haha, looks like more 'completionists' than not (I am one too). I got to play on a friend's beta acct for about 5-6 hours, got a WD to 12, killed Leoric 3 or 4 times, and killed/looted/broke open damn near everything. I absolutely loved it! Felt very much like the preceding games, just as addictive, maybe even more so.
Back on topic, yes, Force's (and others') playthroughs are annoying to people who play like me, I kept staring at my monitor going, 'agh, you missed that bookshelf!', etc. If he was a completionist like the rest of us who are, I can't see the majority of viewers wanting to sit through 3 hours of gameplay until he reaches the end.
What I did like was his interpreting of the skills he got, and exactly why he chose to use them over others. It shows his playstyle and leaves the door open for people to realise that the chars are very customisable according to their own style.
Yes, they all miss a lot of stuff, but it's about showing the content up to the Skeleton King, not how to break barrels-101.
OT-What I would like to see is a compilation video of skilling up the blacksmith, what weapons/armour you can get him to make, how far you can get him skilled up, stats/level requirements on the gear, etc.

I don't hate my parents, I don't get drunk just to spite them.
I have my own reasons to drink, I think I'll call my Dad up and invite him.
Husky - God I was hoping he was just really bad and annoying at SC2.... I was wrong.
Day(9) - He's better than Husky by far. Still, I find him to be too much of a diva and fake at times which comes bleeds through his casting. His play style is good however.
Force - Best. His voice is the least annoying (actually enjoyable in my opinion). You can see he really gets into the game and loves it (If you don't believe me, re-watch the videos. Force actually *umphs* if he is casting while he is using cleave/bash). You can see he obviously knows what he's doing when he plays and likes to keep things moving at a fast pace for his audience.
You learn a lot from streams about the players. From being on the other side previously I can say that it is not easy to make a stream entertaining. Some people play well, talk the whole time or leave vent open to keep up a minimum level of entertainment.
I prefer to just keep the action going and I like that force does that.
From being on the other side previously I can say that it is not easy to make a stream entertaining.
What I think would be most engaging is to talk with a purpose. I would be most entertained by the player approaching a situation, saying what they're going to do (trying new skills, combos, tactics, etc), doing it, then analyzing during the downtime between encounters.
That's obviously ideal, but I think it can be done waaaaay better than I've seen in any beta vids/streams so far.
For me, it's not so much even the commentary or the random chatter. It's the idea that, "Argh ! I would have done it another way !". That feeling alone has compelled me to pick up D2 again and start pwning crap and picking up all the spoils. I'm very, very happy for everyone who has gotten access so far, because I've been to the last 3 Blizzcons and have played the alpha versions there for 3 years in a row, so it's all the more exciting that more of my brethren have gotten a chance to play the game.
I'm just giddy with anticipation for the release. I can almost taste it...
I both agree and disagree. I'm like you, I pick up everything and explore everything, but when I watch the streams I get so annoyed when he/she does that. I just want to see the action, not some guy rummaging through every bookshelf, chest, loose stone, barrel and whatnot.
Fair enough. I was trying to think of ways I would differentiate my stream/youtube video experience from others. I think, if done right, the downtime spent hunting and talking would really nicely compliment the uptime fighting and not talking.
Also, you never know what kind of goodies and/or random encounters you're going to uncover. Most streamers just race through to Leoric and W/R/R. I'm over that.

There is nothing quite like the joy of kicking over a vase and having a unique or set item fall out of it. Nothing.
This is why when I streamed I just asked people in the chat for suggestions about what they wanted to see. If somebody wanted me to go straight for skeleking with X class, I would. Or if somebody wanted me to full clear the dungeon, I would.

That's what I made a point to do when I got up to over 50 spectators when I was streaming. I would just talk to myself a bunch. I felt kinda corny. But people would listen and comment in response to my thoughts. Haha. xD
Yea I'm at wits end watching these streams... I can't STAND IT when cats run around with 10% health and don't use a potion, or better yet let themselves linger around 50% hp for minutes on end... and then die.
I just play Diablo II HCC to maintain #1 on east w/ my team but it's frustrating knowing Diablo III is supposedly coming out soon, and that's all you REALLY want to play... but you cant. It's been a few YEARS of this, and these past couple months have just been irritating.
