I think that we have plenty of options to supplement for the growing diversity in items. As other have mentioned, you can farm, you can gamble with shards, and you can upgrade through the cube.

Personally, I enjoy BoA for what it is, and I typically find what I want. I certainly find what I need. I would enjoy trading as well, but I'll take what cards I'm given.
If I were to assess this situation, strictly applying it toward D3; Part of this game is being able to do what you can with what you find. And I think that's a pretty fun dynamic in and of itself.
The way it reads, it almost sounds like you don't want more items added to the game. Which is..... weird.
The solution is that of one word, and one word is all that is needed.
Trading.
To clarify, I like new items being added to the game. I like being able to experiment with new builds. What I don't like is not being able to find the specific item I want to finally complete a build. The changes in 2.3 alleviate this to a degree, but it doesn't address the core issue.
If you have really bad RNG, you could play this game for years and not get the item you want to complete a build.

Sweeping reform in this regard could be accomplished by way of binding specific item drop-chances to specific bosses, elite rares, side quests and side-areas.
This would not only provide some relief from not being able to complete certain builds via missing items, but it would provide an excellent farming atmosphere, giving players a goal in mind while playing. Just smashing through rifts can be fun, but many players become quickly disillusioned due to the lack of a specific goal.
It's going to take an xpac sized patch to accomplish this though, so hopefully that's exactly where such change will come from.
It looks like this patch adds new ways of farming specific legendaries/slots, through the Kanai cube, so I believe the problem will not be as big as it used to be.
Additionally, with being able to use legendary powers, certain items will not be so mandatory, as you could simply imbue their power and use the next best thing you get.
I wish they would make your item storage box larger or even make one for each character with another next to it to use for all. As cool as it is to have 800 billion different items it blows you can only have a few characters to use them. I have 3 different demon hunter builds and still cannot use everything I would like to try. You have to have at least 3 of each if you wanna test all the stuff but not enough spaces for all that. I need a box to hold 500 items for everything being added. Don't get me wrong though I love all the additions every season. I have 8 xbox one games I haven't opened because I cannot stop playing this for the year plus it has been out.
Problem finding items? Sorry, don't know anybody other than a hardcore casual who doesn't have full Ancient sets, full ancient Convention, Immunity Amulets, perfect rolled Hellfire Amulets
Problems getting gear? LOL, this isn't D3 vanilla bro, Items don't mean shit in this game now everyone has all of them.......
That's not how it works, they dont drop a legendary to then roll to a random legendary, but every legendary have its own drop chance, hence it doesn't matter how many legendaries there is since you still got the same drop chance, you would only see more drops with more legendaries.
Any source on that? Also won't it nerf chances at kadala tho? Or does it mean that you are getting more legendaries for the same ammount of shards in the long run?
You will get legendaries based on your PARAGON LEVEL. If you want more legendaries, and better legendaries, FARM MORE PARAGON in GR42-50. GR farming is the only worthwhile thing to do in D3 - you get PERMANENT STATS WHICH ARE BETTER THAN ANY LEGENDARY! Also you get the legendaries on top of it from Kadala (250 BS per GR) and RG

All legendaries of a specific item type have their chance fitted within 100% of all legendaries of said type. So when a new legendary is added to that pool, every other legendary has it's chance slightly reduced to make the numbers fit. Which means, more legendaries, the less of a chance of seeing a certain one, if all other chances are to remain equal.
Seeing this made me realize something that might be a little important to the non-seasonal players- have they said how the cube will work with legacy items?
I'm assuming the powers would stay as you got them before the item changed as part of the cube's reasoning was to cut down clutter. Otherwise there will be a lot of butthurt about cubing some of the more powerful legacy effects.

Hisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
I have to agree. I kinda want to "hissss" at my own post. I was only meaning to tell him, the only way to ensure people get everything they want is via trading, but I didn't mean to make it sound like I actually support such a thing.

Best post in this thread and a great idea. I get bored of the aimless rifting after 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Yeah cause 500 int or a bit of movement speed is so much better than a build defining item like carnevil... Not?
Paragon points are nice to have, but build defining legendaries are nicer.
^ Wrong. There is no such thing as a build defining legendary in D3. Legendaries are worthless Flavor of the Month items that get changed every patch, and they can have their strongest attribute put into a cube
And yes 500 int difference, or a 1000 int difference or a 3000 int difference (Paragon 2000 is now being reached) will make up a huge difference between two players with the same Carnevil

The Kanai cube will help a lot with the storage problem. For me at least. All the legs I have in season and ns are things that "could" be usefull for X or Y build. Having a way to keep the affix without the item will be a great relieve for me and for some others.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The season is underway. Don't know if I'll make it through.

...wouldn't it get harder and harder to get the item you want with each season?
The item pool will get larger every season, making your chances to get 1 item out of X possible legendaries progressively smaller.
I wonder how the devs plan to address this? What would you suggest to the devs?
Since most ppl find items so fast anyway I don't realy see this as a problem. And there's always Kadala to search for items
