Vote for your favorite submissions from our Create a Monster Contest. I understand that the original announcement stated that only the Staff would be judging the submissions... However, judging by the number of submissions we received for the contest and the number of Staff we have, we did not feel that leaving it up to the few of us would be a fair representation of the judging. With that in mind, yes, I would like for all of you to vote on your favorite entry in the contest. You're all allowed one vote per category (the system will keep track of that itself). The voting will end on September 1st at midnight PST. From there, we (the staff) will review the results you guys have given us and then choose the winners based on our opinion and the general public opinion.
Let's face it. Iris wins. Hands down. That image is fucking breath-taking. I nearly-- okay, I came.
Second vote goes to the Xiansi Wraith in my book. Holy crap, though, there's some awesome art. I think that the Kis'Va entry is stunning as well, but Xiansi has that little kick of extra effort in it to give it second place.
LORE
Love the lore for Kish'Va. Very interesting, totally works with the story of Diablo I and II and reads very realistically and eerily.
Second vote goes to Hatred's Left Hand. Love the lore on this one too. Totally interesting.
MECHANICS
First vote is for the Ogre Jailer. It's just so different from all the other submissions!
Second goes to Xiansi Wraith. Loved the pictures to go along with it and the puppeteer move is really neat.
Third place (not counted) goes to Wheel of Pain. Hahahahahahaha. I love how simple it is.
Okay, as far as lore, most of them dearly needed a thesaurus, and the rest were highly predictable. Everything needs to be corrupt and evil, for some reason, like there's no good people, beings, or factions in Diablo II. That was my rubric. Since they all failed in that respect, I gave my lore vote to Skysnail because he has a hamster avatar and the snail was the most unique out of all the lore submissions. I.E., it was basically the only non-evil one, and mythologically-speaking, that is something you'd hear about in a campfire story from a different culture. Dare to be different, guys. Dare to be different.
Other than the lore, both the mechanics and art submissions were abundantly wonderful. I had a hard time picking out my favorites. Of course, we have a few register-just-to-win-and-then-never-show-up-again's, but besides them, we also have some great submissions from established (and not-so-established) members.
Good luck to all! It's really cool how much this one little contest has gotten the community involved Good job admins!

Honestly...I think even the creators of Diablo would have a seriously hard time beating TY the creator of Iris the fallen necro.

Honestly the Fallen Necromancer and the Xiansai Wraith are mind-blowing...
Fallen Necromancer is easily the best art one. I'm not sure about best lore or mechanics, though. Just voted what came to mind with them. Was a fun contest.
IMO I think the Wraith definitely has the best mechanics. All around I would say it's my favorite.

Art: It was a tough choice between Umpa's, and Iris TFN. I liked the style and the execution of Umpa, and I liked the idea and the concept of Iris. I really think Umpa's gets the edge here. I don't know if you will get what I mean, but his looks "polished" ? And for a guy who isn't a professional at this, his work was amazing. He worked really hard and came up with something really badass. He gets my vote.
Well, I love Mephisto, so who do you think my vote goes to? lulz. Umpa again. Regardless of the fact that he used Mephisto as a central aspect of his lore piece, it was a great idea. Standard corruption leading to immense power, yet with a touch of something better.
I will give my Mechanics vote a bit later, but I doubt Umpa will win my vote on that one, lol.
for the art I voted the Ninjosaur, I think it's the best concept, I put it next to the xiansai wrath, but I didn't felt the wrath to be enough diablo-esque (for me of course)
the lore, I went also for Umpa, the concept of the monster leads to a great lore and the other good lore stories are kind of far fetched imo
and the mechanics, guess... the reptar again, it was a very hard decision between the zombie-motaro and the xiansai wrath, but I liked more the way umpa explained the idea, simple and to the point, the wrath was too much for me
so there you go umpa (this doesn't mean we're not in war)
I <3 Mephy and the cow king(who will die only by the hands of the ninjosaur).

I feel like it's a little unfair for me in the Mechanics department. I'm one of the few people who designed a common monster - most everyone else did minibosses - and I wrote the mechanics around it as such. It lives to die, so the fight shouldn't get crazy.
But whatever. I'll at least get ONE vote. :whistling:

This is why you're supposed to go nuts on contests like this. Usually the biggest, baddest monster will win that has a hundred billion different abilities. Har har. Will go for scale next time. I need to practice my drawing skills really bad....wonder how many hours a day I should be practicing.
I only see 3 artworks/ideas that stand out to me: the Ogre Jailer, Sonneillon (or whatever), and Iris.
Iris would be a bad ass boss imo, but I'm going to have to say Umpa's will get my vote.
This man knows his stuff I would say. But maybe I'm biased...
Hhhm...So, if someone gets 3 second places, do they get 3 premium accounts?

I agree with this comment. Most of the time you are fighting the common enemy in the game in mass. Some of the art submissions are amazing but I have a hard time seeing a lot of the bigger creatures onscreen to fight in numbers
Saying that, I liked the Bloody Hills barbarian as it expanded on game ideas from Diablo 2 and I can imagine something like that being in the game. Some nostalgia to it.
The mechanics on the Xansai wraith doesn't seem like it would work out. Take control of the hero? Good luck having fun in a single player game.
With Iris, fallen necromancer the enemy has a corpse explode and a resurrect, but if the corpse is already exploded there is nothing to resurrect. Didn't make sense to me to have two skills that don't work too well with one another.
But yea, those are my comments on just the top two vote-getters for mechanics. Otherwise the art is amazing. :mage:
First of all, I sincerely am grateful for everyone who commented my submission! You have no idea how joyful I am, whether or not you voted for me
Personally, I am blown away by Iris (Fallen Necromancer)'s idea and lore! I don't think I need to speak anything about the artwork. It is like having Chuck Norris visit a local taekwondo tournament.
RYUhaduKEN, I did think of that when I designed the skill Nether Puppeteer. It would be a spell that the Wraith rarely casts, and it's meant to be deadly in multi-player, not single player. The idea is to be mindful when bringing a high DPS character teammate to fight the Wraith, as he could turn your teammate into a double-edged sword.
In single player, the skill would not do much. The Wraith cannot DPS while he is controlling you, he only has his sloppy skeletal minions to attack for him. Player would be smart to clear the minions beforehand.
So I figured this skill would be more effective in multi-player.
All three votes to Iris. I felt it was the most complete original idea and I actually would be intrigued to see Blizzards take on the concept.

"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."
Wow good job all you guys, seriously.. I had to look at them, switching pages again and again just to make up my mind on who to vote for.
I voted for;
-ArtofTy for best art. Really, you're awesome! Nuff said.
-Krono674 for best lore. Yours is the easiest for me to imagine existing in the world of sanctuary, plus, it's an awesome idea. Your idea made me hope the barbarians that died in D2 would come back, so we can make'em die again >8).. to free their souls ofcourse.. :whistling:
-Hyralism for best Mechanics. Cuz it looks like you really took the time to think about cool spells your monster would have. The spell ideas are new and original, like the puppeteer thing, which is awesome btw.
So there you have it, my honest opinions. I wish all the participants the best of luck. I can't wait to see who will win.
