British Deathmars is right. Didn't I say Catacombs? It's my favorite part of Diablo and no game for me has ever come close to conveying such a claustrophobic panicky feeling as that part of the game.

I hate when people say they want The Butcher to return to D3. To even say that is to fail to understand what made him so special in the first game. And they couldn't possibly recreate the dread one felt when seeing him in the first game. The new game will just be so polished and lack any real grit or rawness to have any Butcher or Catacomb like moments in them. They'll attempt it, sure. But it just won't succeed.
I have to say the greatest Diablo 1 moment, was the Halls of the Blind. "I can see what you see not, vision blurry, then eyes rot..." Man, that was great. Plus I loved all the "legit" pride me and the other legit players had. Don't even get me started on Tristram's theme song.
Wow, I can remember several things about Diablo that I loved. I remember there being this huge rift, at least I remember the split being pretty big, between legit players and "hackers." I was in a legit guild called Five Orders of Justice. Unfortunately, I can't remember any of the 5 different orders except for Rose order, and that's only because of Spaceman-FOJR who had that bad ace Grandfather.
I remember I saw Diablo for the first time in some games magazine (well, not some, it was Secret Service
- one of the most renown Polish gaming mags at that time) and then
playing the Pre-Release Demo version from some bonus CD of some other
magazine in 1996 - it had only like 2 levels of the Church or so, but
man, oh man, it was simply mind-blowing.
I still play diablo on my pc. I also have diablo 2 and diablo 3. Diablo 3 is for PlayStation 4. I like griswald, love that accent. Not sure if it's Irish or Scottish.
Most of this is obviously false. There is no "+x to all skills" modifier in D1, for example. You are probably thinking of "+2 to spell levels".
Regarding the rest, you're mistaken on every point. No legitimate AA staff has ever existed in un-modded D1, nor can a staff generate with 255 charges of any spell.

But yeah nothing quite matches the feel and darkness of the Catacombs. It's what I think of whenever I think of Diablo 1, maybe except of Tristram.

The music. It was intense, frightening and claustrophobic. To me, the original atmosphere of the Diablo games. Few areas in D2 and D3 come even close.
